Carrie Underwood concert - when the h@!! are the tickets going to be available?! I love that we announce a hometown favorite and tickets are available.....never. I keep checking online, and nothing. Any time now, folks, would be great to make those available to the public.
"WANTED...???" Yeah right. I went to see this new movie with Angelina Jolie at the Eaton Cinema on S. Memorial on the 4th of July. Ok? So I watched the movie and this Angelina's character of a group of assasins. Ok? As the movie progressed I began to notice how pretty Angelina was and how incredibly sexie she was, with her wet lips looking so delicious and wet...as she busily continued to fire her handgun at some dude in a grocery store and then how she gracefully "Curves" her shots to make the bullet go around something or someone and yet still manages to hit the target. Ok? Here I was sitting there virtually "drooling" over Angelina and how really HOT lookin she was and sexie and all the Tat's and stuff like that. Ok? What really distrubs me is this: How can I sit there and go on and on and on about how Pretty Angelina is when all the while she punching some dude in the chops...kicking the crap outta some other dude. Shooting this dude and that dude...and I'm thinkin..."Wow she is so Pretty...!" ...Go figure..!
We are in a Corporate Economy and it is not ethical (though many major companies have a 'Statement of Ethical Behavior' if not an online course on Ethics) that they are not leveling out the disproportionate Corporate profits vs. Personal Income. When these Corporations get as large as they are they should be held to the same standard of ethics that they hold their Front Line Employees to and make fair and equitable personal income adjustments to coincide with the State of the Economy.
I guess it is just another sign of the times. This year, for the first time, those in charge of the Utica Square "Art In The Square" show have decided to charge the artists, craftsmen and artisans a non-refundable entry fee for displaying and selling their art work. Charging an application or entry fee is not unheard of. This year the Jenks Art Walk has decided to charge a $25 fee for artists who will exhibit their work. What is surprising, however, is the amount of the Utica Square application fee: One hundred dollars. Whoops! Is that correct? From no charge to $100 all in one fell swoop.
One hundred dollars for an art show that lasts only seven hours! Even the Blue Dome Arts Festival decided this year to charge a fee but their fee was $80 and it was for 3 long days during Mayfest. That is, at least, very reasonable.
Perhaps, the Utica Square Merchants Association does not realize that many, probably most, of the artists who participate do not make their living selling their art but try to supplement their income during these difficult economic times. It is sad enough that art must take a back seat to other more pressing purchases these days, like gasoline and food, housing and clothing, etc.
I personally find in unconscionable in these troubling times that artists must pay to show their art outside at Utica Square when, for that day surely, it is the artists who bring so many customers to the Square. When artists cause hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people to visit Utica Square that day it benefits all of the businesses located there. Why should the artists be singled out to foot the bill for this one day art show? I can not speak for any of the other artists who have done the show in the past but I will not be participating in the Utica Square show this year because of the ridiculous fee they hope to charge us artists when it is the artists who make the show what it has been in the past....one of the best outside art venues in the state. I do believe that such a reputation has been placed in jeopardy.
If there are other artists who feel as I do that we are not only being taken advantage of but that we are being asked to foot the bill for this show in the toughest of times, then I hope that others will join me in expressing their distaste for this change by Utica Square. Perhaps, if enough artists decide that the show is not worth $100 (non-refundable even if it is rained out), then maybe those in charge will lower their fee or lose many more artists than just myself. As I mentioned before, I can only speak for myself but I find it disgusting, disappointing and a damn shame that such a wonderful event has been hijacked and a ransom fee of $100 is being charged to all artists who wish to participate.
I leave it to other artists to make their own decisions about this situation but I will not be among however many (or few) artists decide that it is okay to put the cost of this show on the backs of already burdened artists. I would like to know what other artists feel about this situation and the citizens of Tulsa as well.

I am so sick of people complaining that downtown is too crime-ridden & they will never go there to see concert at the new arena or anything else downtown for that matter. Downtown NEEDS YOU, needs people to fill the streets & send the cockroaches running elsewhere. Funny how backwards Tulsa is....a few years ago I moved downtown to "get away from it all".
Crime is everywhere & downtown Tulsa is not the worst of it. True, I would not feel comfortable walking by myself downtown at night. Know why? Because it's empty! If there where more people walking around & hanging out I would feel completely comfortable walking alone. It's the dark, desolate streets that give criminals a nice place to hang out & wait for you. I don't see them around Cherry Street. Too many people & too much attention drawn to someone who looks suspicious. Do you think you will be harrassed by the homeless while walking with your family to an event at the new arena or a game at the new Driller's Stadium? Probably not since 50 other people will be walking around you in the same direction. Again, too much attention & activity sends the creeps scrambling for the dark.
And another thing...to all you chunky-butts that complain about walking 5 blocks to an event, GET OFF THE COUCH YOU LAZY DOLT.
Here's you: "I don't want to walk 5 blocks to my destination."
Here's what it translates to: "I am 100% lazy & I don't want to have to move my body any more than I have to. I mean, it's hard work for me to walk 5 parking spaces to see a movie at the AMC, and you want me to walk 5 BLOCKS?! What if it's raining? What if it's cold? What if it's hot?"
People downtown in other cities just deal with it. Tulsa has pretty mild weather so here's a suggestion: put on a coat, carry an umbrella & suck it up ya big pussy.
Why do we still need Radio DJ's? I understand there has to be commercials to pay the bills and I don’t really mind most of those, but why do they have to interrupt the music for some jerk off to ramble on about his personal life for three minutes? We get it. You’re wild. You get drunk and do stupid stuff. So do I. So do billions of other people. Why do we need to hear this garbage? I guess it would be all right if they talked about something else. Like, I dunno, maybe music? I mean it’s not that hard. Pick up a Rolling Stone (or Urban Tulsa) and regurgitate it into the mike for 30 seconds. I love that one station that brags about taking time out of their aimless babbling to actually mention, THE NAME OF THE SONG! Hallelujah! Give that station an award for investigative journalism! Small wonder everyone is going to IPODs.
Many articles URBY carries mention "Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless". Often they highlight what great things they accomplish for the poor and homeless population, which they do effectively for untold numbers. Are your readers (and contributors to TDC) also aware that the staff of "TDC routinely disposes of belongings of their "clients" if they are so unfortunate as to be late to store them at the appointed time, for whatever reason including work and broken down busses, with NO POSSIBILITY of recovering the items. Did they also know that they have weekly staff meetings to review the questionable befavior of the clients to decide if they will be able to continue to stay with the night shelter, avail themselves of of day services, or otherwise be "barred" from the premises, with no representation for the client present. In other words, the client has no opportunity to be represented when the decision is made that they have no SAFE place to sleep that night, regardless of age or infirmity. The staff member's word is law.
This comment is posted as encouragement for those interested to look into the day to day treatment of clients of TDC, both positive and negative actions taken there every day. It's mostly good, but the hearts and roses only go so far. Ask yourself, "do too many cases (people) get PUSHED through the cracks". Think about it.
Why don't you folks take a look at the Great Plains airline debacle? Tulsa needs another newspaper, here's your chance to take on Goliath & Company and hit 'em where it hurts.
I'm not pissed off, but of course that professional theif who unlocked my gas cap and the thug who comes in my apartment and tampered with my belongings and steal shit. Overall its been a peaceful 2008 so far. But here a thought for yall, who coerce in this type of behavior and prance in public with credibility with your associate hidden in the background. I like to share a fable with you. A wise man, walking alone, Was being bothered by a fool throwing stones at his head. Turning to face him, he said: "My dear chap, well thrown! Please accept these few francs. You've worked hard enough to get more than mere thanks. Every effort deserves its reward. But see that man over there? He can afford more than I can. Present him with some of your stones: they'll earn a good wage." Lured by bait, the stupid man ran off to repeat the outrage on the other citizen. This time he wasn't paid in money for his stones. Up rushed serving-men, and seized him and thrashed him and broke all his bones. In the courts of kings there are pests like this, devoid of sense: They'll make their master laugh at your expense. To silence their cackle, should you hand out rough punishment? Maybe your not strong enough or rich enough to take them all. Better to persuade them to attack, harass, steal from somebody else, who can more than pay them back. These are those mere francs, fools,$5,653.00, Attorney fee, Court Cost, Bailbonds, and property dammage.
We received a $100 gift certificate to Molly's Landing from an out of town guest we had taken to Molly's, a fine restaurant we had dined in many times. When we tried to use the certificate we were told it had been used. We had the card and envelope it came is as the friend from out of state did it over the phone one evening. (of course we had not used it.) The manager was extremely rude, finely told us to leave and never come back. After several letters we finely gave up. Do not go to Molly's Landing as there are many places in Tulsa where they treat their patrons with respect.
My boyfriend and I just had breakfast at Duffy's Diner at 2424 East 15th for the first time, and I want to warn people that the service is slow and, even worse, the staff do not wash their hands after smoking or handling money. Our server was more interested in speaking to another person than serving us. As we were eating, we noticed another server and one of the cooks step outside to take a smoke break; when they finished their breaks, neither stopped to wash their hands before returning to their tasks, such as preparing and serving food. The cashier was also serving food without washing her hands after handling cash. We will not be returning.
take a deep breath, put down the cigarette and finish your bottle of wine...

I moved to Tulsa from a nearby farming community for more opportunities. More careers, shopping and dining options, better housing, and more social opportunites. But what pisses me off is in the year that I have lived here, I HAVE MET NO ELIGIBLE BACHELORS. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a foreigner looking for an immediate marriage, but for a 21 year old hot blonde with a good head on my shoulders, and a good career, I'm sure not getting as many nibbles as I should be. I'm tired of the lowlives at bars, the snobs at church and the meatheads at the gym. WHERE ARE ALL THE GOOD SINGLE MEN HIDING?!?!?
Well let's see, pissed off? Hmmmmmmmmmm. They are building a pretty nice new set of digs downtown. BOK Center I think they are going to call it. Let's see. Park a damn mile away and walk to a so-so groups concert in January when it's 18 degrees out and the wind is a mild 40 mph as they tend to be in Oklahoma occasionally. Why walk a mile? Because the idiots that came up with the plan allowed for no parking!!!!!!! Maybe the late great George Carlin was right, "There's nothing wrong with the politicians, we voted for them so there must be something wrong with us!"
Let's see, they want to suck 2 BILLION dollars out of us over the next 12 years to pay for repairs to streets that we've already paid for.
What else, oh, let's build a new ball park downtown for the Drillers!!!! Let's not. Let's refurbish the park they are currently in and use the money saved to fix a pothole, or a bridge on I44 that's droping chunks on the people driving under it or build a parking lot for the Damn BOK center! Sheesh this ain't that tough folks. Hey, I'm a season ticket holder. I like parking close to the yard. I don't want to walk a mile, and won't to see the Drillers play.
What you have is politicians lining their pockets with kickbacks from the construction and contracting companies doing the work. Or paying back favors owed when they got elected. A little common sense goes a long, long way. Kathy Taylor apparently thought GOD said electic fence when he said common sense and said she and her fellow councilors would pass.
How about being without power for two weeks and then the people that couldn't get it back on wanting to raise the rates. How about rebating me my hotel and meal expenses I incurred because you were to tight and to stupid to bury the damn power lines?
And then, to top it all off, we have to complete morons running for the job of running this country. C'mon folks, would you really want Obama in charge if the feces hits the oscillating rotary? And McCain? Well I like him better but you better look hard at the VP on his ticket. He'll be one missed heartbeat away from the White House. And that missed heartbeat might not be that far off. Then congress can't even manage to place a moratorium on the gas tax we pay per gallon, about 55 cents per gallon, because they have the worst addiction of all. Yep, not crack, not meth, but other peoples money!!!!!!!!!!
So there I was a little pissed, but like the wife says, about what?
I live down where the rubber meets the road ya know. Graduated from the school of hard knocks. This gas price stuff is just getting ludicrous.
We are sitting on more oil than all of the middle east combined and the powers that be are afraid of a few little tree huggers stop them from extracting it from the ground. When we last drilled in Alaska, the animals loved it. They use the pipline to stay warm and actually flourished. Not my words, some guy off of Animal Planet. People much more educated than I have said if we started drilling now, Anwar, Colorado, and other places the tree huggers don't want drilling to take place, that in 6 months gas would be down to $1.65-1.75 a gallon. Build the refineries in the damn desert for all I care. I don't really have a problem paying for the gas but, I see those that do and think it's stupid.
Yes find alternative power sources but we have to use what we have now until they are in place and feasible. Building of a hybrid car does much more damage to the ecological system than gas powered cars. Stop and think, how are you going to dispose of the worn out batter packs. I'll tell you how, they'll bury the things and pollute the water table in the area where they do it. They are not re-usable as of now.
When the interests of a few interfere with the need of the masses it is time to do what is right for the masses. Otherwise anarchy will take place eventually. Already people are stealing gas out of cars and trucks. Mine has donated to someone more needy than I twice. That's just like coming up and taking $60 bucks out of my pocket.
Ummmm...are you sure that posting a comment regarding something that upsets us, twerks our nards, disturbs our other wise pleasant day....your dear dear, most beloved "Readers" is Acceptable here..??? In a few of the Urban Tulsa Newspapers I've read quite lengthy "Reviews" about various up and coming or current Motion Pitures. I don't know "Who" this guy or dude is that critiques movies for your newspaper....Ok? But, I must say that his Views in Movies Suck Swamp Water...! For example: the previous movie of The HULK...he body slammed that one intensely..! I went to see it anyway and I really Enjoyed it..! Also, the most recent edition of The HULK, again, I went to see that too. It was a Blast...! I Loved it..! Can this "Critic" there at the Urban Tulsa Newspaper even begin to grasp or ummm...shall we say, reckognize how The HULK is derived from a Comic Book Hero??? .....Like Duh...! Yeah, dude...he's a ficticious character that once was so limitedly dimensional being presented in a paper back comic book....but even tho...a fun and exciting story about a Dr. Banner and the bizzar effects of Gamma Rays. ( Marvel-ous! ) SO to think that NOW in this new age of unlimited creative computer generated, visual effects...Here comes a totally yet inspiring concept of The HULK...! That Kids of all ages can truely get their teeth into..! A remarkable approach in entertainment for all of us to Enjoy..! Meanwhile, this ???????????????????? Movie "Critic" of The Urban Tulsa Newspaper writes all his Blabber-Blah-Blah-Doo-Doo down on paper for us all to read, sounding like He's just One Sandwich Shy of Having a Picnic. Whew....! ( A Rex Reed he ain't...! ) My next motion picture adventure will be......IRON MAN.
Ok Urban Tulsa. I read your most recent issue of Urban Tulsa Newspaper having to do with a small photo of the new BOK Arena. The article or "whatever" it was just below it, went on and on about more Negative comments about this new arena. The person is obvioulsy not an Artist and does not posses any virtual creativity in archetecture. My point is simply this...: I have read so many things about this new place. But can somebody keep it in mind how it was Built here in downtown Tulsa to HELP "T" Town's Economy...! And to HELP Bring more people into this region of the country. Not to mention entertain many many people as they attend the various menus of this nature. After spending an alledged $178,000,000 is it possible that somebody was serious in their designs and archetecture??? Thinking that just perhaps it will turn out OK inspite of all the multitudes of "attitudes" festering up about the place? I hope it works great for Tulsa...! Sincerely, Jerry Hawkins of Tulsa
I live in an apartment call Riverbend. And I notice when I am not home and theirs maintenance to be done and I'm not there. I intrust the people who comes in my apartment to respect my things. But thats not the case. Instead this individual committs petty theiverie. First it was the bug guy who decide to help himself to a redbull. Second it was a maintenance personell who thought he open a box of honeybunn and eat one and put it back in the cabinet at the very bottom. And recently I've notice someone had flatten my tire on a mountainbike which I had replace a new tube the day before, my internet was disconnected, not the service. Third and recently apartment maintenance does a yearly maintenance check, and steal four protein energy bar. So I reported it to property manager, and she says that I might have eaten them and forgot about it, as she throw a temper tantrum and hang up on me. This makes me wonder, what else are these people doing when I'm not there as they decide to snoop and help themselves to whatever. My personel information maybe?

I cry when I try to cook
My house is silent—all music sings of your voice
But I can still stand up.
You took my heart and shattered it
And from these broken pieces I will grow wings.
From these tired eyes will spring a fountain
And in my tears I will cleanse myself
And though I will never stop loving you,
Someday, my heart will open again
And a truly deserving man will be blessed.
I loved you with all my heart.
Now I love you in reserve.

Re: Are You Pissed Off? Tell us about it.
Re: Are You Pissed Off? Tell us about it.
So yeah, I'm pissed about that.
Re: Are You Pissed Off? Tell us about it.
( Marvel-ous! )
SO to think that NOW in this new age of unlimited creative computer generated, visual effects...Here comes a totally yet inspiring concept of The HULK...!
Whew....! ( A Rex Reed he ain't...! )
My next motion picture adventure will be......IRON MAN.
Re: Are You Pissed Off? Tell us about it.
After spending an alledged $178,000,000 is it possible that somebody was serious in their designs and archetecture??? Thinking that just perhaps it will turn out OK inspite of all the multitudes of "attitudes" festering up about the place?
I hope it works great for Tulsa...! Sincerely,
Jerry Hawkins of Tulsa
