Carrie Underwood concert - when the h@!! are the tickets going to be available?! I love that we announce a hometown favorite and tickets are available.....never. I keep checking online, and nothing. Any time now, folks, would be great to make those available to the public.

Hey there. I'm a sixteen year old Junior attening Edison Highschool, and you know what ticks me off?

I was up around two in the morning playing Champions of Norrath (like the nerd that I am) and I had just kicked this big Zeus looking guys butt when this song came on the radio.

"Look at this mouth, look at these eyes look at these ears look at this hair line" "they match!" "they match the hairline the ears, the mouth, the nose, the eyes the everything."
"you know damn well this yo baby! you know this yo baby!" "10 month old baby, dante...you are not the father"

Dat baby dont look like me x4
   YEAH!

Dat baby dont look like me x9
"shes a stankin slut, she needa keep her knees closed, that baby look nothin like me that baby cock eyed and i got squinty eyes,we look different from head to toe"
"you think this baby looks like any of ya'll"
"now children, what do you say when you meet a nice man"
   "are you my daddy?"

Shit try gucci man bitch he might be but that baby dont look like me
Dat baby dont look like me x8

This is, quite obviously, a sign of the times.

It isn't bad enough that we already have deadbeat dads and craptastic womanizing males running around impregnating women and then denying it, but now, Captain of all Idiots, Lil Whats his dumb a**, has written a song that pretty much glamourizes it.

With a beat you can dance to and a catchy chorus stuck on repeat, people are doomed to become addicted to this atrocity and slowly but surely become brainwashed by it.

It has been proven countless times, and people can deny it however many times they want, it doesn’t make it any less true, the music, television, and media in general, affects the way humans think and interact with each other. Is this the norm in today’s society?

Is it REALLY okay to talk and act like a complete punk?

As other songs have said, is it REALLY okay to treat women as sex objects and categorize men as chauvinist pigs? Is it okay to teach children and teenagers to behave promiscuously, and to stick themselves in categories?

Females! You aren’t worth anything more than a sex object! Shake your ass and let me put dollar bills in your G-string and smack you around a bit! You’re a slut and you should be proud!

Men! That baby isnt yours! F*** the world, you own everything! You're the boss! You're straight up gangster!

These are the subliminal messages being sent to our subconscious every time we hear a song like this. Ever noticed how certain music makes you smile? Makes you cry? Makes you mad? Makes you want to dance?

Music affects us, sometimes in ways that are detrimental to our fragile nature. Humans are more susceptible (SP, totally massacred that word.) to change of thought than they believe.

How do I know this? Take a look at how much the world has changed over the yers; disregarding the advances we've made in technology. What was the world like back then? And how did they behave? What’s the world like now? And how do we behave?

Even the song Independent, while I myself enjoy it, says basically "Here’s a chick I can mooch off of! She has a job and all this rad stuff, so I don't have to do anything for her! Fuck being a gentlemen, she can take care of herself AND me!"

Now, before anyone gets on me saying I'm just a rap hater, I'm not. There’s some rock music that is of the same caliber as this Baby aint mine song. Even techno and electro for example- One of my favorite groups, Millionaires (and Brokencyde!), is complete trash. Theres no other way to put it, it is what it is.

And while everyone will shrug and insist it’s just a song and it’s all in good fun, you can’t fall into a fit of denial. While some people aren’t affected (mainly because they do not let these things affect them) others are. And the vast majority of society is being affected by these changes.

For Gods sake, they are making thongs and salons especially for children!

But, my dear reader, do you know what is even worse than that?

People are buying them. Everyone frowns upon pedophilia, but we are practically encouraging it by buying our little girls thongs, stringy bikinis, short skirts and vinyl boots.

The Hannah Montana clothes, I love Miley Cyrus, and truth be told she is probably the best romodel out there- But I wouldn’t want my 6 or 7 year old in a hoochie coochie sequined tank top and pleather skirt!

Kids these days are slowly, actually, RAPIDLY degresing, and no matter which way you look at it the facts are clear.

But even if numerous people have and do come to the same conclusion I have, it doesn’t matter. Because as long as people are buying these clothes for these kids, paying for these trashtastic CDs, and paying money for objects that contribute to the downfall of humanity as we know it, the companies will continue to sell it. All we can do now is cross our fingers and hope for the best, because truthfully, we have screwed ourselves over big time.

   Our blissfull ignorance is EPIC.

By continuing to contribute to societies perpetual downhill spiral, we are dooming the generations ahead of ours, and our generation, to a life full of things that shouldn't and don't have to be.

Everything builds on top of itself, it has to start somewhere, and eventually, has to come to an end. We can either end it or it can end us, ultamatley, it is our choice.

Guess which option we are currently pursuing?

I would write much, much more, but mother dearest wants to leave and I have no intention of getting yelled "HURRY UP AND FINISH WRITING!!!" any longer.

Toodles for the time being, or at least, until something else grinds my gears,

   Crystal "Chrissy" Phillips
   ChrissyLostHerPoise@Yahoo.Com

   PS:

Can't the people writing this songs at least use slang that is grammatically correct? Or have they never heard of an apostrophe? Gettin' should have one at the end of it, ig'nant Farquads.

   PSS:
What I think is interesting is the people making the music fail to realize what they're doing, and half of them, are way decent people who would never act the way they seem to in their songs. They do it to make money- Thats the way the business goes. But; never the less, people still interprite it how they interprite it, in their subconcious mind "So-And-So who sings this is sucessful and they behave this way, quite obviously I can act like that and be sucessful as well." Perhaps those arent their exact subconsious thoughts, but it is close enough.

PSSS: (Don't you just love my Ps's?) If this gets published, I would very much like an actual copy of it, and would be uber pleased if I could be notified if it does. :)

On Thursday July the 3rd. I attempted for the first time to finally attend a Tulsa Drillers Baseball game.
We waited in line at an intersection in the parking lot for some time, seemingly invisible to a traffic cop who was sending people in various directions with no apparent logic.
Despite the indicated intention of my auto’s blinker, he eventually sent us off in the opposite direction of most.
Now we are literally being herded like a stray cow, by a lunatic in a golf cart who is right behind us yelling, “GO, GO, GO ”. Keep in mind at this time there are no other moving cars within 50ft. of us, to another female attendant who motions us OUT of the parking lot toward the street.
I explained, “We do not want to leave, we want to park and go to the game.”
To which she replied, I would need to go back on to the street and get back in line.
I don’t think I want to see the game this bad I replied.
“That’s fine”, she shot back, “just go.”
The commercials claim, “Fun for the whole family”. Not, be humiliated in front of your whole family.
So your parking lot people had their moment, and I’m sure they enjoyed it.
And that’s fine, because my moment will be every time I hear one of your radio ads, or any of the myriad of ways that you spend money, to try and get my money.
Because you will not get my money.
And when you’re little franchise has gone the way of The Oilers, The Ruffnecks and The Zone, that will be my moment as well.
Because for every person like myself who will tell you how they feel, there are several thousand others who will only tell everyone else.

What's with all the trucks and traliors driving (?) around lately, how many people have gone into the mowing business? I see the guys driving 10mph under the speed limit, in the fast lane-and usually taking two lanes, doing their best to block up traffic. They park in the middle of the convience store parking lots and there is no way to get anything inside as they stand around blocking up the coffee, fountains etc. Do us a favor boys-GET OUT OF THE WAY!.

Tulsa, your driving skills leave a lot to be desired.

Turning against the light into another driver's lane and then having the audacity to flip them the bird is comical. Refresh your memory on who really has the right of way, please.

You know that stick that is on the left side of your steering wheel? That's a turn signal. You use it to alert other drivers that you intend to turn. When you lose your bumper because you failed to let the driver behind you know that you would be slamming on your brakes and turning left into the Sonic parking lot, don't bother whining about it.

Changing lanes willy nilly into another driver's lane and then slamming on your brakes to turn because YOU have no idea where you're going, should NOT become someone else's problem. Get a map and review it before you hit the road.

Do us all a favor and review the driving rules, look where you're going, be courteous to other drivers and by all means, PLEASE use your traffic signal!

   To TheSteinman:

I was at that Driller's game, luckily I live nearby & walked to stay out of that traffic jam. That was the busiest Driller's game I have ever seen in my life! I think they sold out that night.

I've been to a ton of games & they are really enjoyable, traffic & parking are not much of a problem. If you're not too pissed over one person's action you should take your family back to a game. Don't write off the Driller's as a whole just because some broad copped attitude. If you want to avoid the mess try parking in the neighborhood across the street, we always do. You do not have to walk much further than the parking lot & it's a lot better than sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Maybe if you'd worked alittle harder on those 'degrees' you claim to have, you'd know your spelling and grammar... maybe then you could get a job.

"" You bet Im PISSED OFF, I have been looking for work in my Field Of Expertes(Machine/Building Maintenance-Computers/Installations/Repair-Call Centers,Not the so called Boiler Room where you have sell sell sell and sell some more just to keep your job)But at my age[55] and the Degree and a 1/2 that I have worked hard to obtain, the standard reply is Your Over Quilified!!!! But if you know someone here in town or the county or the state the test are waved and the job is yours, this city that I live in {13 yrs now} is nothing but a Nepotisum Town where if you are not related to someone all you can get is fast food, dishwasher, janitor job that pay so damn low you would have to live on the streets or in some low cost slum-crime-ridden apartment where if your not careful you could end up on the death count.""

Since moving to Tulsa three years ago I've heard nothing but complaints about our local government. Its not that I'm not empathetic toward the plights of local businesses in regard to this new tax scam. But I am amazed that no one saw this coming. Where did you think the money was coming from, not from the people who will profit from the project for God's sake. The oldest rule in journalism is this: when something is afoul you simple follow the money to find the guilty parties. As a people we really only get upset when something effects us directly. Complaining about the symptoms does not make the problem go away. What we need are local journalists willing follow the money. There is no doubt of enough corruption and dirty-dealing going on in this ridiculous stadium to fill several books. I'd also like to add a question: Am Ithe only person living in Tulsa who's greatly disturbed by the fact that we're spending a King's ransom to build an arena while a block away homeless people are wondering around? Maybe we should use some of that money to improve the lives of our dispossessed citizens...that would be real economic reform. I suppose it will be less expensive and make for better press if Mayor Taylor just has the Police Department discreetly round them up and shoot them in middle of the night.

Why don't we just give up and throw out the mayor, council and everone else in city govt and declare George Kaiser king? At least we would know what's going on then, instead of having to read between the lines all the time. It's getting to be like "who shot J.R.?" anymore. I cannot recall such a mess in city government. It's long past time for a serious reform in Tulsa.

LOL. Here we are in the midst of the SemGroup debacle and your lead items are a puffy piece about a festival and another B-list item about a borrow-a-bike program. It's been just a couple of months since you made a Valentine of a feature about Tom Kivisto your cover story. Looking back, one has to wonder why you don't appear to have asked him anything about potential pitfalls for his "empire." After all, as the TW pointed out in one of its numerous stories on SemGroup, Moody's raised a warning flag more than two years ago about Sem's debt load and penchant for acquisitions. Not having any substantial piece of reportage this week on SemGroup, after giving Kivisto the butt-kissing you gave him in that cover story leaves you with major egg on your face. Can you handle the challenge?

Besides the obvious, and aforementioned lack of blinker usage, what is up with people driving with their fog lights on??!! Talk about "driving" with your head up your ass!! People, when you go down the road at night with your fog lights on, it's like you have your high beams on!! It's extremely annoying, and quite a pet peeve of mine!! Perhaps I should be resigned to the fact that if people are too stupid (or self-involved) to use their turn signals or tear their ear away from their cell phone while at a service counter, then they couldn't possibly be expected to see the fog light symbol on their dashboard (let alone know what it means and how to remedy it).

The BOK Center and Ticket Scalping:
What is this....?? For month after month, workers have diligently slaved to complete the new addition to downtown Tulsa...alright?
Then after so much publicity, and finally coming up with an opening act that everybody loves...The Eagles get the award...!
Now that all this and millions and millions of dollars have gone into this landmark for Oklahoma....
"Ticket Scalpers" are now having a hay day...buying up lots of tickets and pricing them at ridiculous high prices...!
This seems like quite an Insult to all those people and corporations who have put so much dedicated effort into this new arena.
Are there any Laws that Tulsan's can look too that have the ability to pursuade Ticket Scalpers to go somewhere else and wreck people's lives...??
The BOK is already exspensive enough as it is....what can Tulsa do now...???
FANS by the way still should be treated as just that...Fans who enjoy seeing their favorite personalities and music groups...etc..etc.
Not "Vampired" finacially simply because some people see this as an opportunity to take very unfair advantages of them.

So, you finally put together a blurb on SemGroup (in your News Update), but you included nothing on the possible impact of the firm's problems on plans for a new stadium for the Drillers. Even the sports piece by Dwayne Davis, which rambles about the stadium, doesn't get into the funding question. Reports I've seen say that Mayor Taylor had talked with SemGroup about a $7.5 million contribution, but no commitment had yet been made. The overall stadium project is to cost $60 million with some $30 million coming from private donors. There should have been something in your report on what the mayor has to say about whether the $7.5 million she discussed with SemGroup was part of the $30 million in private money she was touting at the time of the stadium vote. You should also have carried something on when the mayor knew SemGroup was in trouble.

Also, what were you thinking when you published (in Davis' sports column) the line, "There may be a riot if the deal falls apart" with respect to the stadium deal? We're most likely talking about a stadium in Greenwood, which was at the center of the infamous 1921 race riot. Perhaps the columnist meant no harm (I'll give the benefit of the doubt on that point), but the line falls flat and is more tacky than anything else. An editor should have excised it from the final version.
