I am pissed off at McDonald's for having employed so many damn hispanics. There is no way that there are that many certified hispanics in Tulsa. You need a translator just to order a an Egg McMuffin. I wonder if someone wearing one of those blue INS jackets was to walk in, how many of those McD employees would flee out the back door?
I have to ask. Where is my stimulus check? I work 50-60 hours a week at 3 jobs just to make ends meet. 3 jobs because most employers have no idea what a decent wage is. An those that do are going out of business or sending the jobs to Mexico. I rent, I don't own, I've never had good enough credit or enough to money to make a down payment on a house. I paid cash for the old car I drive. I don't have a zillion dollars in credit debt. I live a paycheck away from homelessness and have lived that way most of my life. I don't want a handout. I just want the opportunity to get and keep a job that will provide for my family.
Two of us went to the CFC CHOCOLATIER on Brady recently during the regular monthly events in the Brady Arts District. We entered the store to find a salesperson who looked at us and walked into the back room without saying a word. We waited for 20 minutes and no one came out to help us make our purchase. We were the only two in the front of the store (we did hear a few voices coming from the back room). Finally we left. The next day we emailed the owner. We received two snide replies telling us that everyone "knows who he is and what he is like". He told us in no uncertain terms that customers must conform to his whims and fancies without exception. With such an attitude and horrible customer service we will take our business to other locally owned shops. Obviously he is too self important and self absorbed to be bothered with customers.
I'm pissed off at government waste. This is regarding a recent article about Dist 7 representative's desire to spend half a million dollars on traffic ticket gadgetry.
Zealot Eagleton, flawed logic and all, is befuddled by dwindling ticket revenues not covering costly city expenditures. Yet he states, in other words, that 'patrols run entire shifts without citing a single infraction'. It seems loose enforcement is the underlying issue, not officers completely overwhelmed with ticket writing. If the fundamental issue is truely light enforcement, then clearly, throwing costly technology at this problem is not the solution. If the problem is police not writing tickets because they don't have the latest "gadgets & toys", then that's another problem altogether.
Further, a two week trial period of these devices with 'deliberate and aggressive enforcement' provides NO PROOF whatsoever as to the (imaginary) benefits of these devices beside the fact that stepping up enforcement itself is what makes a real difference. It seems quite obvious that near half a million dollars worth of ticket dohickeys (@ ~$8000 a piece!? Are you F'ing kidding me?!?) would be a disastrous waste of money. Bad Zealot, bad!
Additionally, he hasn't even attempted to account for the possibility of lighter traffic, carpools, or more sensible driving due to recent economic circumstances and record high gas prices. And further, just what cash strapped families need right now is additional expense from traffic tickets. Could it be that police have been focusing more recently on real crimes? Case in point, compare the current murder rate to the same time period last year.
Frankly, the only real perceivable danger is motorists running red lights and aggressive highway driving (which is generally accompanied by speeding anyways). Save the speed traps for neighborhoods where there are kids and it's truely dangerous to speed.
As for the t-bone incident, we all have our anecdotal accounts of bad driving. I live in Brady in the 900 block and call it Interstate Denver. The way people fly through here, it's like the Tisdale Parkway. Yet I've only seen one traffic stop near my home in over a year and a half. All across America people generically state, "we have the worst drivers in ___fill_in_blank___".
What the city needs is fair and adequete enforcement with input from the citizens while utilizing reasonably available tools (like the internet and good old pen and paper) . They work just fine and much faster than Zealot's claimed (and overblown) 20 minutes per stop. With my reasonable share of tickets (received the old-fashioned way), it's never taken more than 5-10 minutes with all documents in order. If we need a high tech solution, I recommend a traffic website where citizens can post to the authorities where they regularly see a specific need for concentrated enforcement efforts. Now that makes sense!
Someone needs to sue the almighty TW, the last misguided diatribe by Jones, "Ay, caramba, it's back Misguided English-only bill probably headed for a public vote" contains blatant inaccuracies. He discounts the cost to the taxpayer for translation and printing in foreign languages. The truth is that the cost is enormous. Why do they get away with printing lies? Also, I hate the Ask a Mexican column -- he is disgusting. I like everything else about the paper -- please get rid of him.
Has no one noticed how HORRIBLY overpopulated Tulsa is!? There are dipshits all over the place. To make things worse it's mainly clogged up with the filthy rich assholes that control the city and people with their almighty money. Nothing in this city is fun because you have to brave the hordes of idiots that are doing the exact same thing that you are doing. No Good>
BUYERS BEWARE: "Handbags and Gladrags: Company helps Third World countries sell handmade purses internationally" - Dated 2/25/2009
Based on the productline uniquemartique.com sells, Im very befuddled how this business can CLAIM to help 3rd World countries by selling cheap knockoffs.
uniquemartique.com said, "When we first visited we found so many women trying to sell their gorgeous, handmade bags and struggling to provide for their families. Their problem was lack of exposure and we were compelled to do something," said Marty. "We decided if we imported their bags, we could provide them a better price and greater opportunity to develop their business; and it's working."
First, the purses shown on the websites are products made in Vietnam which cost at the local market between $0.90 - $15.00 USD retail (excluding any leather products which goes for $50 at BenThanh Market none of which are made in VN), at wholesales, prices will be about 15-25% less. Many (if not the majority of these products are copies and pirated designs from a very well respected attorney turned bag designer, Debra Chong, whose products sell under the design label: IPA-NEMA (http://www.carmenz.com.my/Press/New%20Straits%20Times%20-%20Malaysia%20News%20Online.htm).
Compare IPA-NEMA's vs Martique's unique suede hair and face bag (http://www.uniquemartique.com/site/martique/product/19) is neither unique or made of suede. Unless Martique imported their own leather and suede to produce their bags, most likely suede bags were not made in VN by the impoverished women the couple insist they are helping with the business.
None of the products shown are so called "unique products" that can assist or provide the impoverished craftwomen earn a a fair wage. The selling of these products might do quite the opposite. The people sell these bags in VN are most likely paying their workers extremely low and oppressive wages (as low as $30-50/month) in order to sell in mass to foreigners like Martique. Very plausibly, the workers are from the Delta desperate to make any income however low and oppressive...some must work to pay off debt at black-market interest rates as high as 30% a week.
Unless Martique committed a % of sales towards an established charity dedicated to helping exploited women forced into oppressive and abusive work condition, I am angry that a business (and a women of god) can claim to HELP provide fair and responsible trade when in fact she does quite the opposite: (1) sells item that were copied and pirated, (2) lied about their unique proposition, (3) perpetuate the oppressive situation.
I am a Vietnamese-American who is one of thousands of volunteers in VN who seek to turn the ties of human trafficking and forced labor especially in factories that turn scores of cheap copies of tourist-friendly products (like those shown on UniqueMartique.com). Reading this article tells me we have so much more work to do at home and abroad. How dare uniquemartique.com uses my motherland and the poor citizens of Vietnam to sell knockoff purses!
You know what pisses me off? The dust on my desk! Gah! Really dust, really? You can't find somewhere better to land? F*#& you, dust! Leave me alone, you know??
What pisses me off? The fact that I am a lowly renter who has paid his rent each month, on time, and in full despite being laid-off from my work in hydrocarbon measurement and loss control. The economic nightmare we face make peasant renters like myself do such things as rent a smaller home or apartment or changing professions as a means for survival. Being the peasant worker and renter I began work much the same as a mechanical engineer instead of staying in business development or being a financial officer. Where is the Economic Stimulus for Renters who knew better than to take on a home loan they could not afford? Why is it that only corrupt lenders and people who lived on their economic edge or were devastated by the Great Depression II deserve a bailout? Why are we apparently sub-human renters not entitled to a year’s worth of rent? Sitting idle as your Federal Government is bailing out for profit companies is a result of being stunned, hopeless, broke, and confused. Many of we peasants have solved the problem for less than a dollar, with one shot in the head. Personally, I believe the world would still exist if AIG and Citi Group crumbled to ashes. As I predicted in December of 2008 your hard earned money is being given back to massive corporations who made a few million bad calls. Everyday you work, remember at least one hour is to ensure crooked lending institutions have liquid capital available to turn you down for a loan for the majority of Americans. You can call that a snuff out for new small businesses as well; take that to the bank, so to speak. To put a fork in us companies such as AIG bonus their executive millions of dollars each. As Americans lose their rental homes these bastards are building winter homes in Aspen and Bali. I say we should move into with these great business minds, since our hard earned tax dollars bought their homes. The homes belong to the people of the Soviet Soc, ah, United States. Since I am a renter people assume I have a lower income and little or no education, as so my fellow renters and I are socially chained to a proper place in the American socio-economic plain of existence. In my case I hold three business degrees to the Master’s level from OU and Dartmouth and own some 280 acres an hour outside of Tulsa. I rent because I may have to move for work at my age. Yet, why a renter’s dollar is not worth the same as a double mortgaged to the gills, refinanced home owner. I’m pissed, where are primate renters going to see our economic stimulus dollars? Lord help me if I have any medical problems. Thank ya

You know what pisses me off? Companies that lay off older, higher-paid employees so they can bring in some 21 year old chump to do the same job for half the cost to the company.
Both of my parents (in their mid-50's) are fighting for their jobs right now because they work for corporate dicks who show NO LOYALTY to their employees, only to their pocketbooks. Hey Mr. CEO, I'd bet your big, fat corporate bonus that my parents can & will do a better job than that goober in khakis you brought in to do a managers job for $25k a year (what's that phrase, "you get what you pay for"?). I know, I know...if you had to pay my parents their earned & deserved salary you might have to sell one of your vacation homes. Poor you.
What does firing a soon-to-be-retiring employee say to us younger generation of employees? It says "Don't be loyal to us because we sure as hell won't be loyal to you and as soon as you're old enough to retire we are going to f*ck you up the ass then fire you before you're financially ready". Gee, I'm so motivated to come work for YOU and help make all your caviar dreams come true.
well ok this is stupid girl, who are you? How am I going to get to know you and teach him a lesson? I'm prety sure you know who I am. If you see me at the bars like cimmeron or backyard give me a shout, and lets talk.
Alright, Urban Tulsa Weekly, and public, I'm hacked off because of a misconception of a band called the Yellow Pansies. I am the former frontwoman of the band, Anna Burnett, and I am writing to you from the computer of the former frontman, Christopher Dean. We are the sole vocalists on 3 of the 4 demo tracks that the Pansies offer on their webpage as well as their myspace. We have been ousted by the majority of the group due to discrepancies between us over lame topics such as unprospectable touring, accepting grammys, seeking fame and fortune through our hometown tunes, and engaging in vulgarity and illicit activities. Though I miss performing music with the band to some degree, I would not sacrifice what I stood for to remain in the hype that the Pansies were gradually attaining, and of which I feel I had 1\6 of the the effort of accumulating. I am not a member anymore. Yet, Chris's and my photos are still being posted on websites and in articles, misleading the public to believe that we will be performing with the band. Make no mistake, the new frontman, Harley, will not disappoint, but I do not appreciate our fans expecting to see two vocalists and getting another. We have not been associated with the Pansies for three months, and I would appreciate you clearing this up. We have asked our former manager, Mark Wilcox, to update you and the public to no avail. Christopher and I have in turn received nothing but jeering comments, nasty rumors, and lying publicity. By all means necessary, I would write the article, clearing up this discrepancy, and if need be, give consent for our pictures so long as the rest of the pansies are not present in the photo. We were a part of the band intending to embrace community, entertainment, fellowship and the arts. It is highly hypocritical to suggest that the pansies are supporting a "good cause" in the upcoming shows as opposed to their frequent lies, false advertisement and ploys for self-gain. Christopher and I will continue to play music and sing our hearts out with anyone without greedy intentions and for anyone who will listen and not expect compensation, recognition, free alcohol or a red carpet welcome. I beleieve we know, like any other REAL musician, what music is really all about. Please respond promptly, if you will @ my email address: rawbravado@yahoo.com
Down Tulsa sucks. Is seems like the rich of Tulsa are backing the mayer or pushing to make ,a rich play ground for the wealthy and the uppy rich baby boomers of this fair city called Tulsa. The big problem with the are surrounding the BOK center is the parking problem. The inviroment surrounding this area is also a problem. You have the city jail, the prerelease center, the YMCA, the salvation army center for the homeless, the civic center (safe haven for the winos, bums and poor people down on their lucks ). This all makes sense. This is the right atmospear that a great venue needs to promote this great building. Yes thye BOK center has brought in a large amount of revenue for the city, country, ect. because of the large service fee put on the price ticket, there in no such thing as a $49.00 ticket when you add a $37.50 servece fee for each ticket. It makes some of the ticket unafordable for ths common fan. Concerts are too costly to go for an evening out. Mayor Taylor sure got in a hurry when she found out the Driller baseball team might be heading to Jenks , to get a proposal to secure a contract to provide the team with a new ball park. WAM , BAM thank you mam, we are building a new mone. She got some of her rich friends to come up with donations for the ballpark. Then she decieded to rase a high tax rate to the property owner for the next 30 years to pay for restr of the bill. City hall does not care for the little people out there when it comes for a play mground foe the rich. There again where is the parking, and traffic jams that this ball park going to ,generate to be figured out. Getting off I244 will cause a traffic jam. They will have to improve the amount of lanes coming from I244 ant the surounding side streets getting in to the new park. One thing about the fair grounds is that they have plenty parking. Down at the new ball park there would not be. On another thought. Your collunist Michael D.Bates needs to eithir gripe about Tulsa and the mayor or kiss there ass not both. One editorial he is pissed at them, ant the next time ha kisses there ass, praising them at how grate of a job that they are doing . He needs to focus on another colum called " WHY DOES TULSA SUCKS " and the people write in and he can answere their complated. This mway he has a better idea what the people think of how the city of Tulsa is complying with the citizens concerns. Just like the Batman movie when the Joker said" what this town needs is an enama" We need the City council to elect official to comply with what the people need in their districts not what they themselves think. The Urban Tulsa paper looks like an Hipy underground paper out of the 60s.Us older citizens of this city are here to stay, dont worry about getting the young professionals to set up roots down town If the cost of living is high, and it will come. In every city when a lot mod development happens prices will go up, not down. The young pros. will have to make big money to live there. Finally My sugestion to MR Bates stay on one tract. Either critize the city and their polititions or KISS THEIR ASS not both, and you will have a collum worth reading. Thank The Revern Jake
You know what pisses me off? People who want something for nothing. People who want to take from one segment of the population to give to another on the assumption that those receiving are deserving. Big government run by bureaucrats making their living redistributing wealth through social engineering projects. People who voted for "hope" and "change" on the basis of skin color. People who can't admit they are biggots and racist but who call others biggots and racist. Yea! You know who you are.
Just disappointed, I was a staff photog for UTW, and as I quit my night job so that I can do assignments, they decided that they didn't need me anymore after 2 years of service, and now when they use the previously submitted photos, they either put UTW photo file, or my previous name on it, and not pay me for them. This stinks because I love UTW and was very committed to them and getting the photos that they need or wanted. It breaks my heart ;( but even though ....., I am great full for the opportunities / adventures that they gave me, understanding and encouragement, and i can say that I do miss it.

Sitting idle as your Federal Government is bailing out for profit companies is a result of being stunned, hopeless, broke, and confused.
Thank ya
