I would certainly love to hear what Professor Scott Elsworth would comment about the Tulsa taxpayers footing the bill for the cost of settling the racial dicrimiantion lawsuit filed against the city by black police officers.
At last count, the cost is right at $6 million dollars of taxpayer funds, with a large portion going to attorney's fees. The estimated cost to the city to defend this lawsuit is placed at $2 million dollars in legal fees alone.
Six million dollars which could have gone to social services, street repairs, needed infrastructure improvments in north Tulsa, daycare needs, and helping the needy in general. Millions in critically needed funding gone in a legal fight that accomplished,....what exactly?
I hope the Professor will give the readers his thoughts.
I concur, it should be taught as a shameful part of Tulsa history in the context of the times, but picking at scabs, which I believe this is, never helped an old wound heal.
