i've eaten at several different outdoor food vendor stands and i have to admit i have wondered if they have hot water on their truck to wash their hands properly. now because i understand some spanish,i've overheard how some of them took turns going to quicktrip gas stations to go use the bathroom. i think for now on i'm going to inquire and ask that question a little bit more often. i have never gotten sick from eating at these stands but still i like to know for sure, that they are using the proper santitary precautions, so inspectors need to check on these to protect the public. Anyhow its not hard at all to put hot water with a propane system on ones vehicle and have hot water . hmmmm i think i'm going to open up my own food truck stand and take everyones comments into consideration. love cooking for people for free, so matters well make a business out of it . at least its an honest business and since i'm a clean fanaic i won't have any problems passing an inspection.
Thank you to these people that operate mobile food buisness. They get alot of grief from better than thou people, and yet they still work hard everyday to provide a great product in exchange for an honest living. Stop them and you could stop your childs dreams of starting his own resteraunt in the future. This economy is not getting better and to earn a living is harder and harder every year the calander turns. Stop profiling and judging things that are different. Try to have an open mind and you will learn something new everyday. I prefer a mobile food buisness over a corporate building for they are trying twice as hard to please me then most of the rest.
And...dysentery is a normal part of Old Mexico. If everyone is being candid the fact is that Mexicans have Mobile Mexican Food stands in Tulsa. Almost on every corner in East Tulsa. This is no secret and they aren't under "Refrigerated Food" and "Pre-packaged Food Guidelines" They don't submit to a Health Inspection. However, neither do concession stands. You can get a germy smelly hot dog that's been sitting out in the open under the heatlamp for two hours at the zoo and then sit outside and let a pigeon take a poo in your food if you want. Tulsa is NASTY. But, cleanliness is a personal choice. It's not just the Mexican Taco stands that will have to up their standards...it's everyone in Tulsa, INCLUDING THE NASTY ZOO. The way I see it...WIN FOR MEEEE cause I don't want a fatal bacterial disease and I'm clean.
FYI, the way this is all worded would affect ice cream trucks, Swann's delivery etc. Before you jump on the "illegals" bandwagon again, make sure you aren't throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
Tacos Y Don Fransisco is great, and I can't count how many people I've turned on to them. Mr. Tacos, as well. The food is not only infinitely better tasting--the variations on the recipes alone are great--than that pre-processed, non-local, chain crap, but the value is amazing. Get a burrito at Mr. Tacos. It's $6.50, tastes great, and it's the size of a goddamn cinder block! Makes me hungry just thinking about it. Hell, even the bottled Coke is better (there's real sugar in Mexican Coca-Cola as opposed to the nasty corn syrup in the U.S. variety). I've gotten into plenty of arguments about the best Mex in town with people who know what they are talking about. Chimi's, On The Border, and all the other corporate chains never enter the conversation.
Sadly, as Mr. Kline notes, this town is loaded with nativist bigots who love nothing more then to work themselves up into a lather over shit they know nothing about--treasure, you have no clue who operates legally, you just assume illegality--never realizing how much they sound like spoiled children. If they lived in a more metropolitan city their heads would probably explode from their own righteous indignation.
The whole thing would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.
poor treasure... he probably thinks the only good tacos are at el guapo's.
This is just more small-minded Tulsa bigotry and fear. Go to Austin, there's a taco stand on every corner and they're usually better than any mexican restaurant. It's a normal part of living in a city.
That also goes for the stands in Tulsa- Tacos Velvet Elvis, the stand in the parking lot of Las Americas, the permanent stands like Mr. Taco and Tacos Don Francisco-- all amazing, and free of the processing and corporate handling that taints the food at places like On the Border.
A friend of mine ate at On the Border recently and found a metal washer in her enchilada. More than once i've had corporate mexican food and and bit into the remains of the plastic storage bag from the refried beans. This has never happened to me at any taco stand, and the food tastes infinitely better.
Open your small minds, treasure and joejoe. Or even better, get of our town. There's an excess number of bigots in this city, and it's time to do some house cleaning. I say we round 'em up on buses, drive them across the border and drop them off in Mexico.
On second thought, I'd never want to do that to Mexico.
these awful, nasty taco stands must be shut down; most of them show no documentation whatsoever regarding health permits, business permits or sales tax submissions; they are a blight on the landscape; one has been parked and apparently abandoned at 41st and Garnett forever; something must be done
Some of the best food in Tulsa is at these stands. I've gotten food poisoning at a few well know restaurants, but NEVER at one of these places. Honest people trying to make a buck. Racial hatred, bigotry and ignorance are all well represented here.
