There are two types of orders, one is a restraining order, the other is a protective order. Restraining orders are civil orders and CANNOT be enforced by the Police. Protective orders are the only type of those two orders that can be enforced by means of arrest. This is a common misconception by the public. The public is not aware usually and they fail to do their homework before seeking court orders against domestic partners, etc etc.. Might want to ask your attorney why he/she didn't file for a protective order instead? Now, lets see if your as quick to apologize for hammering the Police for something they know about and you obviously do not.

Sharkey, apparently you haven't gotten a restraining/ protective order for a while. His (my ex's) restraining/protective order specifically states the distance she must stay away and "they, the police" do not enforce the specific issues listed on the order. Of course, after being called and by the time the police arrive several hours later, if at all, she is gone. I hope you never have the cause or reason to need such an order. Even after your most informative reply, I still have no faith in our police department.

This is a bunch of crap. Do they seriously need to make a policy that says no lying, seriously this sad. From personal experience: The # 1 rule of the TULSA POLICE ACADEMY is NO LYING. If you are caught lying you will be fired. When i went through the academy I was forced to quit my dream job with two weeks to go, because of one of TULSA's finest lied, saying I said something that I didt say. Even when there were witnesses saying I didnt. To tell us now that there is a new Policy agianst that is bascically telling Tulsan oop we got caught. These guys need to be hammered by the law and do time because how many people are serving longer sentences because they lied.

If you live in Oklahoma, Im sorry that the bad eggs have affected your faith in the police. As far as you ex's restraining order,Oklahoma has protective orders and they do not have distance requirements. They have specific rules that apply and sitting down the street in her vehicle is not a violation. Entering his residence is one of the violations if the Judge orders it. The police can only enforce the specific issues listed on the order. If they cannot prove beyond a resonable doubt their hands are tied. As far as the bad eggs, you wont meet a police officer that is not angry at their actions. The job is hard enough without this type of black eye.

I have lost faith in the police department in carrying out their duties. For myself, I have had no problems; however, my ex has filed a restraining order against the terrible woman who was living with him because she keeps breaking into his home and stealing whatever she wants whenever he is gone, swears she is going to kill him, etc., and the police won't do a thing, if they even bother to investigate after being called. He has called the police when she is setting at the corner in her vehicle (closer than allowed under the restraining order) and they won't come out. This woman has threatened him in every way possible and they, the police department, won't do a thing. So much for getting a restraining order against anyone that is dangerous and the men in blue that keeps us safe.
