Thank you for this article!! Being that I am a recent transplant from California, I'm slightly liberal. Its nice seeing people with a common view. :)

Very well written, clever and witty. Yes it was aimed at the moderate to left Oklahomans, however it got opinions from both sides. I loved the antidote from former Gov. David Walters.

I just had to comment on the article that I find just plain odd. I just can't get over the fact that you can still write such dribble after all the things that have happened in the last 10 years. I am not defending the actions of the "Ruling Class" that being Demorats as well as Repubics. But I was reading something here that caught my eye at lunch & I just had to comment on it. You talk about "Less than a century ago, Oklahoma was known as a hotbed of the populist-progressive movement, embracing politics so radical, so anti-corporate, so anti-establishment, so pro-little guy that it's almost incomprehensible when compared to 2011." You know kiddo there has to be jobs to enable the "little guy" to sell his wares. So who is going to employ the "little guys" neighbors & friends so they can have money to buy from the "little guy"? It is corporations. Geez stop watching tv for your education & broaden your horizons. Look at what is happening in the country. The reason the mean ole conservatives are trying to reign in the spending is so you will have money to buy from the little guy. Right now they are screaming that the other side wants to shut down the government. lol So freaking what. Nothing is going to stop. Your mail will continue & your check from the nanny state will come. Being a person who stupidly voted for that ignoramus Carter I have lived a few years & been thru a few government shutdowns & it was nothing. The blowhards on the other side yell & scream about everything they them selves just did a few months ago. The demorats crak me up. Everytime they open their mouths I laugh. One thing I am grateful for is that I woke up out of my liberal stupor & realized I have a brain of my own. I don't need a leftist professor or any other self professed genius to tell me what is right & what is wron. You have to have jobs & you can't tax people to death. I am guessing allot of the people who read thsi rag are fairly young & have not lived. My parents consider me their baby to this day but they would have been very very unhappy to see me still expecting them to support me in any way at 27. A 27 yr old is too old to be on their folks health ins. I want my life back the way it was before these ignorant self proffessed geniuses took over our schools & government. See I remember what it was like seeing the pictures of Russians & other people of the Eastern block without enough food & miserable. Socialism doesn't work. Marxism doesn't work. If you want that then go to freaking Venesula or Cuba.

My Perspective, please allow me to fully endorse your response to GeeGirl and the article. Well stated and on target with every point!

I will expand upon your irony comment to note that it appears in the lexicon of the LiberalSocialistProgressive, "character" is defined as incessant whining accompanied by reaching for everybody else's wallet to pay for the LSP's desired "social justice".

Liberals never disappoint. Instead of engaging in a respectful dialog, they unfailingly resort to sarcasm and insults. Despite liberals' incessant accusations to the contrary, there are many intelligent conservatives who simply do not agree with liberal ideas. However, it is easier--and safer--to hurl insults about "rednecks" and imply that conservatives cannot "say" (I presume this meant "speak"), "spell," or "think" than to confront the differences of opinion that divide us. As a conservative, I am sympathetic to many of the liberal perspectives on issues, but, ultimately, my values lead me to a different--yet, reasonable--conclusion. I value a woman's right to control her body, but I believe a fetus is a life that should not be ended unless the mother faces imminent death from the pregnancy. I appreciate the idea of "social justice" and help for the poor and disadvantaged, but I struggle to see that taking one person's property by force of government to help those disadvantaged is "justice." Of course, I'm just a "dumb ass" who has fallen victim to the "pandemic" that is conservatism, so what does my opinion matter? (**Irony of sarcastic last line is noted**)

I grew up here, and have since lived on both coasts, in Texas, and abroad. Now I'm back, and something my friends from elsewhere almost always ask me is why I've decided to return to the backwaters. Of course, it's mostly because my parents are here, but as far as the political scene is concerned, it's honestly kinda fun to be the rare pinko/ pants-wetting liberal on the scene, mucking up the works for all the good ol' boy rednecks and red voters who just can't understand why I think women should control their own bodies, or that we all ought to have access to affordable health care. For instance, my House Reps in Massachusetts (where I lived when I turned 18, and the first place I was registered to vote) and California may have been totally in-line with my views, and one of them was even openly gay, but they both saw no threats to their seats. Here, I get to volunteer and advocate for not-a-chance-in-hell candidates whose ability to, say, spell and think means they won't get elected but we sure all do have a good time fighting for them. It builds character.

Amazing! Substitute "red" for "blue" and the whining is the same!
