Although Free Tulsa dominates the weekend with 16 stages and a lineup that touches on nearly every aspect and band in Northeast and Central Oklahoma, the festival isn't the only game in town. Sure, you can snack on samples from all of them and get a fresh picture of the Oklahoma music scene, but if you prefer to settle in for the evening to enjoy a complete show and avoid the chaos, there are plenty of other options as well. If you're looking for something more, we've got a few of the highlights to point you in the right direction.

An illness in the band led moe. to cancel a leg of its current tour, including this week's show at Tulsa sow, but you can still get your jam on as Montu steps up to headline the evening with Panda Resistance opening at Cain's Ballroom. Over at Blue Dome Diner, you can get in touch with your Red Dirt roots with Rocky Frisco's 75th Birthday Party and an open jam session that will surely draw out a group of friends and peers that crosses generations to turn into a special night of music that plays out more like a reunion of old friends and family than a formal concert. And if you're in a more rhythmic mood, Soundpony welcomes more hip hop with Verse taking over the mic for the evening.

Friday, July 27

Just across the tracks from the festival, The Brady District is plenty busy this weekend as Cain's Ballroom welcomes Tulsa native Adley Stump (who appeared on "The Voice") while singer-songwriter Meiko kicks off her national tour at The Vanguard with openers Buddy and Jonathan Van Rissegham. Meanwhile, Brandon Clark Band brings the party to the Hunt Club patio and Crystal Pistol hosts Freak Tulsa, for a night of new metal, featuring 12 bands, including the debut of The Quickening at 10:30pm.

Saturday, July 28

The big show of the night is Eric Himan Band performing Queen Rocks! at The Majestic, but you can also check out David Castro Band at Hunt Club, Billy Joe Winghead at Mercury Lounge or get your jazz groove on with GoGo Plumbay at Mercury Lounge.

The rest of the week is fairly quiet, but you don't want to overlook the stellar double-bill of Seal and Macy Gray as they pair up for a special show at Brady Theater on Wednesday, August 1.
