Kudos From One Insider To Another
(re: The Insider, Oct. 3)
I appreciate Terry Simonson's article, as well as his comments on 1170 talk radio. You are spot on! I have been a psychiatrist treating detainees at David L. Moss for the past five years. I have been practicing psychiatry for over 30 years, and I have assisted and lived through the deinstitutionalization you wrote about. I came to work at the jail when, on a whim, I answered their desperate plea for contract psychiatric time. When I interviewed, I saw all those patients released from state hospitals I thought were being cared for by the mental health centers.
MSNBC will start airing six episodes of Lock Up: Extended Stay filmed here at DLM last spring. I spent a lot of time with the crew and believe they are sensitive to mental health issues in the jail.

What's the Opposite of Kudos?
(re: Rant 'N Rall, Oct. 3)
"Every officer and man will endeavor to live and act as becomes a Christian soldier defending the dearest rights and liberties of his country." -- George Washington.
"When I went to Gettysburg and looked upon the graves of our dead heroes who had fallen in defense of their country, I then and there consecrated myself to Christ." -- Abraham Lincoln.
"Jesus says love. There's something about love that builds up and is creative. There is something about hate that tears down and is destructive. So love your enemies." -- Martin Luther King.
And yet a fool like Ted Rall has the gall to call these people idiots.
Is it because he's uneducated, arrogant, or both? It's because he thinks it's the popular thing to say in an ignorant society. I called him a fool, because the smartest people who ever lived said, "Only a fool says in his heart there is no God." Or does Ted Rall know something these great men don't know?
I tell you what: I'll put my IQ up against Teds any day he says, and I say there is a God.

Food Stamp Fussiness
Republicans, whatever they call themselves, are always on the wrong side of right and righteousness ... The latest example is the House of Representatives passing a farm bill that kills food stamps for the poor, free school lunches for the children and (has) no funds for the meals delivered to the hungry old poor homebound at the time poverty is spreading.
This gives no market assurance for the farmers to sell their products to a guaranteed government buyer. The war on the poor is a war on all Americans' food supply. America has 50 million of US without access to health insurance -- the hospitals cannot keep up with demand ... All those against national health insurance have health insurance at government expense or being paid for by employers that can no longer afford to pay and stay in business. Republicans never create jobs -- they are job killers, economy killers and killers of our people -- it is their history of a trail of misery.

Setting the Mood
America is headed straight towards destruction. And this destruction will come as a judgment from God. This judgment can only be averted if we seek God and turn ourselves and our country around.
Responsibility for the ungodliness which now prevails in our great country belongs to each one of us. But why me, you are probably thinking to yourself. Because God says so! You see, God is going to hold us responsible for everything. For what we have done and for what we failed to do.
... So we need to admit that America is morally bankrupt and spiritually corrupt, and that it is time to turn back to God. As a start, turn the TV off, and then close your eyes, sit back, take a few deep breaths, and relax for a few minutes without thinking.
Then believe the Bible truth that there is a living God, our Creator, who created everything that was created and made, including you, and that He loves you.
