Last week we officially welcomed the summer season with our annual listing of things to do around and about this special Centennial Solstice.

This week, we continue delivering an exhausting sampling of places to go and things to do around town and stateside.

Plymouth Time Capsule Unearthed

Tell me if you've heard this one before. Fifty years ago, in an event called Tulsarama!, celebrating the state's 50th birthday, Tulsans buried a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere under what is now the Tulsa County Courthouse, at 500 S. Denver. It was filled with goodies from the past to show us what Tulsa was like 50 years ago. At noon today, the car will be unearthed and its contents emptied into the Tulsa Convention Center arena for a 6:30pm unveiling. Definitely something you don't want to miss! Waltz on the Wild Side

Starlight Band Concert

Enjoy music under the stars when the Jazz Band performs in a free concert on the West Bank Amphitheatre (2100 South Jackson Ave) on the Arkansas River at 8pm. Program should last about two hours and patrons are encouraged to bring their own seating and concessions. Concessions will also be available for purchase.

"A Decade in the Shade: Tuesdays Turns 10"

The Tuesdays in the Park Concert Series continues this summer in Broken Arrow with free concerts every Tuesday at 7pm at Central Park, 1500 S. Main. Tonight's country music performance is by Oklahoma Balladeer Les Gilliam and his Silver Lakes Band. For more information, go to www.brokenarrowok.gov.

Swinging with the Kids

The Jazz Hall of Fame's festivities sixth annual golf classic is scheduled this year at Cherokee Hills Golf Club in Catoosa. All proceeds will go to the Hall's student scholarship program and the event will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30am. For more info, visit www.okjazz.org.

Oklahoma Music and JazzFest

This summer's concert, hosted by the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, will be held on the promenade outside of the new Jazz Depot building at 1st and Cincinnati, beginning at 6pm. JazzFest free event and features performances by Jazz Hall inductee Glenn R. R Townsend with David Skinner and Junior Markham, WallStreet's tribute to the Motown sound, Harmonious Monk and headliner Grady Nichols.

Jazz in June

This three-evening summer concert series in Norman is part of a 24-year tradition of bringing Oklahoma and national jazz and blues artists to the public for free. Tulsa Salutes Freedom

Celebrate Fourth of July with Tulsa's 33rd annual free fireworks display -- the largest free display in Oklahoma! There will also be three different entertainment venues, corporate picnics and activities for the whole family. The day-long celebration will culminate at dusk with the fireworks display. Diversafest

Spanning over 20 genres of music across 11 stages, Defest is a two-day festival, providing emerging artists an opportunity to showcase their talent, with numerous representatives of the music industry in attendance. Dfest will bring approximately 30,000 music fans to downtown Tulsa for the sounds of more than 130 bands from throughout the region. Headlining the show are Flaming Lips and Leon Russel. Jazz Hall of Fame Induction Banquet Gala

The 19th annual Induction Banquet Gala will be held at the Downtown Doubletree Hotel June 20. The black-tie scholarship fundraiser and reception begins at 6pm, followed by dinner at 7pm and the awards ceremony at 8pm. The evening's music will be provided by the Donald Ryan Quartet and Verdegris High School Jazz Quartet.

June 21-July 13

Sweeney Todd

Light Opera Oklahoma presents Stephen Sondheim's "bloody musical thriller" about a baker and a barber who make the worst meat pies in London. These two are the naughtiest of LOOK's badly behaved men series. Performances are held in the Williams Theater of the PAC.

Naughty Marietta
