Tally's Good Food Café, 1102 S. Yale, 835-8039
Tally's Good Food Cafe
Breakfast at Tally's is like time-traveling back to the 50s, thanks to the retro neon sign that greets customers and the classic diner interior. Tally's is right on Route 66 (aka 11th Street), and the restaurant follows through on the promise of timeless homecooked fare. Show up bright and early for a breakfast of waffles or blueberry pancakes, or mosey in a little later for a brunch with all the fixings-eggs, bacon, sausage and crispy home fries. Although Tally's has only been open since 1987, the spirit of the place hearkens back to a much simpler time. Owner Tally Alame takes pride in being connected to the Tulsa community, and serves free Thanksgiving dinners every year.
Phil-Asia, 6380 E. 31st St #G, 663-5011
For a taste of the Philippines, try lunch at Phil-Asia. This restaurant and grocery store, owned by Bing Adkins, features a selection of cafeteria-style lunch items at reasonable prices. Customer favorites include Beef Caldereta, a beef stew with chunks of meat and vegetables, and Chicken Adobo, large pieces of bone-in chicken cooked with soy sauce, garlic, vinegar and bay leaves in chicken broth. Also try the chicken curry or a side order of Lumpia, the Filipino version of egg rolls. For something a little different, three whole-fish dishes, prepared when ordered, are available. Don't forget dessert--Bico, a sweet rice cake with coconut cream and brown sugar makes a nice accompaniment to a savory meal. The market portion of Phil-Asia includes everything you need to replicate your lunch at home.
