Frank's Cafe
5451 S. Mingo, 665-6760
Who's got the time to cook his or her own homemade breakfast? Frank's offers homestyle options like the two eggs and chicken fried steak breakfast served with hash browns or grits (that's right, real grits), biscuits and gravy or toast. If you're feeling creative, make your own omelet with a large selection of veggies and meats. The menu also has pancakes that come with bacon, sausage or even chicken sausage. For a sweeter morning, try a homemade cinnamon roll.

El Guapo's Cantina

Before winter arrives, make sure you get over to El Guapo's to dine on the rooftop patio while the weather is nice. Try one of their lunch specials like the Chile Verde Wet Burrito, stuffed with jack cheese, rice, refried beans and topped with white queso. The Las Tortas are a Mexican bollio bun filled with avocado, lettuce, onion, tomato, cheese and your choice of steak, pork or chicken. Fresh salsa and chips are plentiful.

Lava Noshery
3512 S. Peoria, 749-3310
A "nosh" is essentially a small meal; Lava has both "little nosh" (appetizers) and "big nosh" (entrees) from which to choose. To begin your gastronomic adventure, consider one of the interesting little nosh options like the fried lobster corndog with whole grain mustard. When you're ready for the big nosh, try the dueling beef- peppered tenderloin and braised short rib served over squash hash. Vegetarians can get behind the goat cheese ravioli served with braised greens.
