Right on Target

Dear Editor:

(In response to, "Acts of Love," in the Nov. 13-19 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

Hannah Tillman did a great job capturing the essence of open adoption- from the first contact made by a birth mother to CPO, the agonizing decision made by this heroic birthmother, and the feelings experienced by the adoptive couple and by their adopted children. Thank you for this rich article and for illustrating the gift of adoption.

Let Him Speak

Dear Editor:

Once a Dream Now a Reality

It was once said that a

Powerful man had a dream.

Though these days in which we

Live, hope really doesn't seem.

We all struggle daily, just

To try and survive.

It's by our faith in God,

We are even still alive.

Living day by day, so

Much does it cost.

These trying times before us

So many yet are lost.

Our battle is not over, there

Now seems to be a light.

Seems our prayers have been

Answered, someone came for us, to fight.

By the word it has been spoken,

Soon would come this day.

A man to carry the torch

Seeking to pave the way.

History surely has been made

A black man now to hold the seat.

To help us in our journey to

Get back on our feet.

So many are surprised, yet

Others however are mad.

A Black man now as president,

Something we never had.

The struggle will be hard,

But our hope is forever alive.

Obama is forth coming, as

To if we can survive.

Finances are in turmoil

So many feel insecure.

Obama holds firm our future,

Of this we are sure.

There are many who are in doubt

Wanting a black man to fail.

By having faith and believing

We surely will prevail.

Nothing is to us promised,

With high hopes we can dream.

We are living in the present of the

Future of Dr. Martin Luther King.

The struggle of this journey

Many gave of there heart.

This vision has been the foundation

To unite not be apart!

The past has gone away from

The darkness of being a slave.

Obama as our leader, of our

Future he came to save.

The master heard our cries

He sent to us a unique man.

If anyone can fill these shoes,

We are praying that he can.

The world is watching closely,

Hopeful and waiting to see.

For the word was in the beginning

This would come to be.

We say that," HE DID IT,"

The night of the race he won.

It's time to get real

Join together as one.

Our future is before us,

Let's join together and pray

Being ever so proud to live and

See this wonderful day.

Review the Review

Dear Editor:

I am very curious if the "Restaurant Review" has an overriding feature of writing good reviews for advertisers. I ask because it seems that Katharine Kelly never writes a negative review on any place she goes. I can think of three reasons why 1)not to upset advertisers, 2) is just too kind hearted to write a bad word about someone's business or 3) simply a very undeveloped palate. Having never met Ms. Kelly I am clearly in no position to say what the reason is.

The review (Kupcakz) is a perfect example. First, I found the Kupcakz to be dry and lacking any flavor. Granted this again is a matter of taste but most glaring is no mention of how far off the mark is Kupcakz business model.

The place is set up like a coffee bar and encourages you to order cupcakes and sit and stay a while. One problem, they don't serve coffee. Second, they only sell cupcakes. No muffins, cookies, pastries etc. I can appreciate the owners desire to sell and market cupcakes but if you consider the nut they have to meet to pay overhead, that is a tremendous amount of cupcakes to move every day!

There should be some support of their signature brands. I don't see how this shop can survive under its current design and thought it should have been considered in a review. Anyway, I would welcome the opportunity to offer an alternative restaurant opinion if desired for your paper.

Cordially,

Andrew Hotchkies

Mr. Fix-It

Dear Editor:

The consumption assumption is what guides the finances of the world. People must have money to buy the goods and services of other people or all things fail apart and chaos occurs. There must be increasing job growth and increasing buying power to the people since we all now depend on the flow of money. Few in the world are able to provide all their needs for themselves; we are trapped in a growth tornado.

Every year new workers get out of school and need qualify jobs and America has been brainwashed that we are benefiting from shipping jobs to other nations, and that illegal uncontrolled people from other nations who will work cheaper helps the nation. America must have quality jobs that will maintain America's lifestyle and our government's income to care for those among us who need help. Qualify jobs are necessary to create taxes to support all the things necessary to run a civilized nation. When business expenses are uncontrolled, then sudden spikes in costs will bankrupt businesses of all sizes. Bigger does not mean safer.

The 2008 crisis was caused by job losses, money rollers and energy speculators. Lobbyists do not work for the good of the people, and politicians that do not work to bring jobs to their states must be replaced-they are worthless parasites. Voters that put unsolvable wedge issues above protecting the financial health of America are traitors. Anyone in Congress that does not put the saving of American jobs first is also traitors-no excuse is acceptable.

Peace and prosperity must be the priorities for America. Making Americans poor will not help the poorer nations. This is just simple Math-to equalize American wages to be competitive in the 3rd world nations is pure ignorance. We are 300 million people and the world is 7 billion. Anyone that promotes this thinking is a fool or the enemy of working people, to destroy American jobs is high treason.

Creative Minds Think Alike

Dear Editor:

Please forgive the anonymity of this letter, I am employed at a local university where any type of public comment is frowned upon.

The Trust Fund kids who occupy positions of power and influence should stop camouflaging their low self esteem by pretending to be Eastern establishment snobs. Regardless of where a person vacations or purchases clothing, if they live in Tulsa and work for their father, they are a Tulsan. Someone should tell them "Get over yourself, Tulsa has some really cool stuff."

The other problem with any attempt to promote the unique local culture has to do with what the rest of the world has that Tulsa doesn't: highly creative advertising agencies with the skills and experience required to produce top drawer advertising and promotional materials. There are several Tulsa agencies that prosper due to the owner's social connections, but take one look at the work they produce. You will find yourself thinking "Where have I seen this before?" Just like the dilettantes lunching at Utica Square, the members of the Tulsa Ad Federation also need something to copy. Until an ad agency in another state produces a series of ads that promote a city with similar attributes, the local ad makers will continue to crank out the same old, tired crap.

In District 10, the Tulsa Addy Show is often derided, many call it the Special Olympics of Advertising.

Your articles are a great service to this community. Thank you for your time.

Be Sure to Drink Your Ovaltine

Dear Editor:

(In response to Isaac Farley's column, "Whole Body Mentality" in the Dec. 4-10 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

My qualifications on writing this response: Registered Nurse and Cancer Survivor for 24 years despite refusing to take 6 more months of chemotherapy and being told by the medical doctors that I would die without it. I'm still here and healthy!

Our medical establishment would have us all believe that they not only have the answers for health care but that they hold a monopoly on getting people well and saving lives. The medical establishment doesn't hold a monopoly and our bodies have an amazing ability to heal themselves if we change what we do that causes and promotes illness. Most people resist changing or looking for causes beyond what is told to them by all knowing medical doctors. Some of the solutions offered by the medical community are dangerous (for many things you have to sign an informed consent that lists possible consequences which includes death), are extremely costly and cause enormous amounts of suffering.

The point as it pertains to your article: The vermiform appendix is a worm-shaped tube connected to the large intestine. If it gets infected and inflamed it may rupture. Our bodies can fight infection with white blood cells. Heat increases blood circulation. Applying heat to the abdomen will increase blood circulation and increase infection fighting white blood cells to that local. Pain is an indication of infection and/or inflammation. If instead of applying heat you take pain medicine for several days to silence the message your body is sending regarding the condition of your appendix the infection grows making rupture of the more likely. A diet low in fiber tends to constipate and blocks the appendix from emptying its self into the intestine getting rid of the bulk of the infection which could safely be eliminated through stool.

Looking critically at all possible solutions to health promotion and cures can improve the quality of your life. I wish you the best.
