Got the Message

Dear Editor:

Why is Kathy Taylor running the commercial where she announced her non-candidacy, over and over? She also references a website during this repeated commercial.

How long will it be before her motives for the website and the repeated airing of the commercial becomes apparent?

Crazies with Power

Dear Editor:

Every day is a good day if you have a job.

President Obama is whistling "Dixie" if he thinks private enterprise will hire all the folks who want to work.

Once a business discovers that the jobs of laid off workers can be done by less employees doing more work, it will never hire more again.

One poor working stiff doing the jobs of three equals larger profits.

In this Great Depression No. 2, there is only one way to give everybody a job--government becomes the employer of last resort--my favorite "Old Democrat" reform.

Here's why:

1. There are purple cows who need work.

2. There is work that needs doing.

3. Why not pay us oddballs to do the work?

America did it well during Great Depression No. 1 in the 1930's.

President Franklin Roosevelt's Works Progress Administration employed 3.3 million people.

In eight years, the WPA constructed 40,000 buildings, including 8,000 schools. It built or improved 650,000 miles of roads, 124,000 bridges and viaducts, 8,000 parks, 18.000 playgrounds and 3,000 swimming pools. It built my high school, Tulsa's Will Rogers.

Obama's WPA could improve schools by hiring an aide for every public school teacher. That would cut the dropout rate in half--just having another person in the classroom who cares about you.

A last-resort jobs program should pay its workers $10 an hour living wage. Adjusted for inflation, that equals the 1968 minimum wage.

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Earth, Wind and Fire" in the May 7-13 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

I hope y'all are taking advantage of your proximity to this amazing place. I live in the Northwest, and only get to see it every few years when we're in Pawhuska visiting family. The bison are epic, and the scenery is spectacular. It's an amazing place to reconnect with the land on a completely visceral level - drive it, hike it, it's awesome. To see the herd grow from the first few scraggly wanderers to the majestic presence they are now has been so gratifying. Get up there and check it out! We'll be there in a week, and I can't wait for my husband to see it for the first time, so he'll finally know what it is I'm always rambling about.

Catch the Bug

Dear Editor:

The Tulsa World is guilty of promoting hate speech from the right wing nuts in Oklahoma on an almost daily basis. These types of people are everywhere claiming the right to spreading pure ignorant conclusions to world events. Claiming to be Christians and patriots running on fear and paranoia. In the Tulsa World of June 11, 2009-the top two letters printed by Sidney Williams, M.D. Stillwater and Fred Stoll Broken Arrow. Williams said, "Obama preaches the ideas of Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, and Jeremiah Wright". Obama does not preach anything but taking care of the sick and peace as being God's way. Apparently, the Doc has changed his Hippocratic Oath for the Republican Hypocritic. Fred Stoll said, "I was surprised he did not apologize to the Europeans for the United States arrogantly invading France to end the Nazi attempt to take over the world". This was plagiarized from a long ranting editorial from Bob Lewis editor of the Broken Arrow Ledger. These right wing nuts are out there-but thankfully, most of the world is moving away from the narrow world of fearful haters. Making my living as salesman over 50 years I know and Obama knows to make friends and make a sale you must clear the air of all objections to your message first. Ignorance is contagious.

All are Welcome

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Thou Shall Not Forget it's Oklahoma" in the May 28 -- June 3 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

So much for separation of church and state!! So does that mean that the other "religions" (which have been around longer than Christianity by the way .....) can also have a monument put up at the Capitol too?? "Freedom of religion means ANY religion" so all should have equal access to the same type of monument to be donated and erected as part of this "garden of monuments"! Unfortunately most of these groups who fight for and protect "religious" freedoms are in actuality only fighting for and protecting "Christianity", not ALL religions.... Sounds partially like a "shrine" to the legislator who is paying for it.... hmmmm.... a little "favoritism" perhaps??!

In Love and War

Dear Editor:

(Posted online in response to "Tragic, Not Senseless" in the June 11-17 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

With all due love and respect, your argument is self-refuting. I'll use two of your quotes to illustrate what I'm saying:

- "If you believe (as I do) that life begins at conception, then the first cellular division after a sperm fertilizes the ovum represents human life every bit as much as you and me."

- "In my view women have--and ought to continue to have--the right to murder their unborn babies."

What I hear you saying is that a fetus is just as viable as a ten year old; and you think its ok to kill the fetus (for practical reasons). If that's true, then you must agree its ok to kill 10 yr olds for practical reasons, right? And if children, adults too??

I certainly hope your answer is no. I don't think you would be ok with someone murdering a relative of yours or someone close to you in the name of practicality or convenience.

Not saying that to be a jerk, just open-minded. Your thoughts are welcome.

Now there's an Idea

Dear Editor:

Henry needs to go away, and we need to get a pitbull conservative governor in his place. Mary Fallen seems to be the most electable, but I would like to know more about Randy Brogdon and his political bent. Is he Conservative in a mild way, moderate way or hard core? I am not interested in any more milk toast RINOS, I want a Hard Core Conservative ready to take on the socialists and kick their asses!
