A Fan For All Of It

(In response to "Pulp Fiction at the Drillers" in the June 2-8 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

Seriously? "TulsaT" hit that on the head -- as did "Red Sox Rule" and "Bourbon Tulsa". Self-righteous, much?

You demanded someone's JOB, their livelihood ... because they *GASP* sprayed your son three times with a WATER gun? (Doing EXACTLY what you were asking for ... showing your son some attention!)

Those two guys go out in the heat FOR HOURS, 6-8 days in a row, away from their families, doing what they love -- for THIS? Way to boost them up, buddy! I surely hope that neither of them read this. I'd hate to think that either of them would question what they do because of some whiner with his nose in the air.

***BUT IF THEY DO -- I know I'm not alone in saying that I support both FAT HORNSBY and TRIP HOP LOW PANTS. My children have had a great time at the games we've attended this year.

Losing Loyalties

(In response to "Pulp Fiction at the Drillers" in the June 2-8 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

Just picked up a copy of this week's UT. Thank you so much for your article on Hornsby.

I have noticed something different about him -- besides the outfit. The lewd back and forth hip gesture he does so often is disgusting. He stands in front of couples and touches his heart and makes gestures to the lady of the couple. He does not interact with the audience... except with the nice looking ladies.

I have been silent until I read your article. I am sorry your son had to be disappointed by Hornsby. This guy is going to be responsible for losing Drillers fans -- including me. Thanks for saying it for me.

--Jan Smith

Singing Praise

(In response to "Ozark Proud" in the June 2-8 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

This is a great review, doing justice to a fantastic band. I caught them at the Iron Horse last year, my first listen was live and I've been a follower ever since.

I did a little write up of them for my music review website, hoping to spread the word. Their new album, Death of a Decade, is great and I listen to it every day. They are rooted in their history and connected to a good foundation of folk and blues. I was blown away by their rendition of "The Gallis Pole" live.

I hope they come back East to the Western Mass area again!

Healed Hound

(In response to "Hole-istic Medicine" in the June 2-8 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

My Shih Tzu had a disc injury in his back and was in terrible pain. Many doctors, treatments and medicines later, he was not getting better.

I ended up with an awesome vet named Steve Hodges who recommended Dr. Owens as a last resort before surgery. We really thought he might lose his ability to walk.

After getting acupuncture with Dr. Owens, he became a different dog. I was a non-believer, but I was desperate. Now, I can't explain what it does or why, and I don't care. It worked so well that I started getting acupuncture myself that helped an injury I have had for four years. Highly recommended. You will love this doctor -- the nicest person who is great with the animals and you.

Out of Context

(In response to "Losing Grip" in the June 2-8 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

The quote in the middle was why I read it and I agree totally -- "Oklahoma is a great state as long as you fit the profile."

However, beyond the quote I found zero intelligence. It is not your point of view but your presentation that is the problem. Why do you write? What is the point? Are you providing a service? What is your goal?

You and your counterparts on the other "side" of the political spectrum (like Rush L.), have a presentation that has only destructive results. Who learns from it?

P.S. I am not from Oklahoma either.

Pup Props

Thank you for your support and contribution to the 2011 Tulsa Boxer Rescue Bark Walk and Pet Fest on April 16. Thanks to your generous donation of ad space, TBR raised over $10,000! We are very proud of the support we received and the success of this event. This was our second year of the Bark Walk and we are looking forward to the growing success of the event in upcoming years.

The Tulsa Box Rescue is a volunteer-staffed, non-profit 501c(3) organization created solely for the welfare and protection of the Boxer breed throughout Oklahoma. TBR rescues and places for adoption nearly 300 unwanted, neglected or abandoned Boxers per year.

Thank you for your kind contribution

--Jill Garcille and Patti Kuck
