Political Preview

Posturing candidates and campaign managers, in their bids for president in 2012, have taken over the radio waves and 24-hour news channels for months on end.

In 2010, Oklahoma was the only state in which all 77 counties went red for Republican nominee, Senator John McCain (R-AZ); and Oklahoma's conservative political leanings haven't changed much in the past three years.

While a revolving door of highly coiffed Republican candidates jump in and out of the national spotlight, there are also a few new faces popping up in Oklahoma's congressional races.

U.S. Rep. John Sullivan still holds his seat as representative of Oklahoma's 1st District, which includes the Tulsa Metro area and Bartlesville, but he may face some competition this election cycle.

UTW sits down with conservative Republican and Navy Reservist pilot Jim Bridenstine to see where he stands on the issues, why he decided to run against Sullivan and how the two Republicans differ ideologically.

While we're getting dizzy from the political spin and rhetoric and carousel of nominees, is there hope for Oklahoma with this new, young candidate?

Make sure to grab a copy of our next issue, out on stands Dec. 22, where we'll feature a Q&A with Bridenstine (including questions you posted via Facebook).
