After taking a breather following the New Year celebrations, the local music scene is back in full swing with a packed calendar. As always, we've got the highlights to help you choose wisely and get the most from the local music schedule.

Thursday, Jan. 12

Algebra's Church Camp EP release party at Soundpony has already been mentioned and can't be overlooked as this evening's highlight, but it's not the only show in town. Also worth checking out is Motive For Movement's first show of the year as the band take the stage at The Treehouse with Tell Tale opening and offers a glimpse of the new EP die to be released in the near future. The Marquee is busy as well with Wednesday 13, Aiden and Modern Day Escape highlighting the schedule.

Friday, Jan. 13

If you're a roots rock fan, you'll have a hard time choosing between country legend Billy Joe Shaver with Jackson Taylor & the Sinners and Whitney Morgan at Cain's Ballroom or Two Tons of Steel at Mercury Lounge. Both will be killer shows, so your best bet may be to hit the Cain's then cap your night at The Merc' -- that is if the club isn't already at capacity by the time you get there. Other highlights include Chubby Checker at River Spirit Events Center for the classic rock crowd and Able the Allies at Hunt Club for local pop/rock fans.

Saturday, Jan. 14

The calendar is even more packed with choices as Darrell Scott kicks off the spring concert series at All Souls Acoustic Coffeehouse, Colt Ford headlines Cain's Ballroom and Whirligig takes over at the Colony once again. Also on the radar are RadioRadio at Hunt Club, Fiddlebacks at Treehouse and a killer package with GoGo Plumbay, Dead Sea Choir and Panda Resistance at Fassler Hall.

Sunday, Jan. 15

Don't forget the aforementioned Fraserfest benefit show at Blue Dome Diner with The Big O Show, Faithbook, Future Depression Sound, Hiphopotamus and Panda Resistance or finish your weekend out with old standbys like Brandon Clark at Mercury Lounge or Paul Benjaman and Friends at The Colony

Monday, Jan. 16

The Joint at Hard Rock Casino kicks off 2012 with Wynonna & the Big Noise for a night that will undoubtedly touch on pop, country, a little blues and possibly even a touch of her history in The Judds.

Wednesday, Jan. 18

White hot Americana duo The Civil Wars arrive in Tulsa for what may be one of the most engaging and intimate shows of the year at Joy Williams and John Paul White present their haunting ballads to limited capacity crowd with only a few tickets remaining at press time. The Staves open this can't miss show.
