Bonus Tracks

Sure, there are plenty of SXSW bands rolling through town this week, but that's not all Tulsa's music scene has going for it this week. We've got some big names and package shows rolling through town as well as some great local talent and some big parties for St Patrick's Day this weekend. If you're looking for tips on where to start, you've come to the right place; just check these out for some of the hottest shows of the week:

Thursday, March 15

Jack White's solo show may be the hottest ticket in town (or anywhere) right now, but you had to strike early to get in. Tulsa is one of only four cities on this introduction tour and the ballroom show sold out in less than 15 minutes, so you'll have to try your luck with the scalpers if you haven't gotten yours yet. The other big show of the night is worth just as much buzz as Jane's Addiction brings its Theater of Escapists tour to The Joint for a killer show with Black Box Revelation that gets the Hard Rock back on track with the rock acts.

Friday, March 16

Mercury Lounge brings back Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy for a guaranteed great show and Hunt Club hosts a party with Sam & the Stylees. The best lead in for the weekend, however, just might be the pre-St Pat's party at Arnie's with Paul Benjaman Band, Jesse Aycock and Junior Brown -- and there's no cover!

Saturday, March 17

St. Patrick's Day parties highlight the calendar and the biggest one is the "St. Patty's Celebration on Cherry Street" with a block party that includes two stages and music beginning at 11am. The East Stage, (sponsored by Smoke on Cherry Street) kicks off at 11am with Jenny Labow, followed by Annie Ellicott, Brandon Clark, Pat Cook and Ben Kilgore. The West Stage (sponsored by Kilkenny's) kicks off at 3pm with Sam & the Stylees, followed by Brad James Band, traditional Irish dancers, Te Big O Show and a final set by Cairde an Gael. The whole thing is capped off by headline performance by Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey at 9pm on the East Stage and although the block party is free, VIP tickets for JFJO are available for $25 with proceeds going to the Mental Health Association in Tulsa.

That's not the only party in town, however, and you can't let St Pat's slide by without celebrating at Arnie's. This year's party kicks off at 5:30pm with Coyote Mountain Fiddlers, followed by Cairde na Gael at 7pm and the triumphant return of Larkin, from 10pm until close. Also worth your time is Brandon Clark Band, returning to its home base at Mercury Lounge after spending the past month touring in Texas, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. Mercer & Johnson is on the bill as well, but this promises to be a blow out show for BCB after a long month of road shows.

Tuesday, March 20

Lights may be the most current and trendy act in town with a show at Cain's Ballroom with Ambassadors opening, but the stealth show of the week is easily the Experience Hendrix Tour at Brady Theater. This all-star tribute to Hendrix packs the maximum punch for guitar fans with a lineup that includes Billy Cox, Robby Krieger, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Dweezil Zappa, Bootsy Collins, Robert Randolph and Eric Johnson, amongst others. It's a three hour guitar showdown that starts at 8pm and tickets are still available.
