Another week has passed and the calendar keeps rolling along. This weekend is big on the national touring shows, so pick wisely and check out your favorites. We can't cover everything here, so don't hesitate to check out the Live Music calendar for the complete listings. We've got the highlights to get you started, though, so read on to get some tips before you head out the door.

Thursday, April 26

If you're looking for a legendary songwriter, you can't go wrong with Ray Wylie Hubbard at Blue Dome Diner, with an intimate show that starts at 7:30pm. If you're thinking local, check out Rude Amps and Tell Tale with Taifas at Soundpony, beginning at 10pm.

Friday, April 27

If you're in a classic rock mood, Bachman & Turner (of BTO) play River Spirit Events Center while Rocco DeLuca plays Cain's Ballroom with Folk Family Revival for the more contemporary crowd. And if you're just looking for a party, make sure to crash at Mercury Lounge with Sam & the Stylees.

Saturday, April 28

This is the night with the BIG shows of the week. Country fans won't want to miss "An evening with" Trace Adkins at Brady Theater for a full evening of songs and storytelling that is rumored to be recorded for a possible upcoming DVD or TV special. Anyone looking for a more classic vibe will want to check out Merle Haggard as he returns to Tulsa for a special show at River Spirit Events Center at 8pm. Finally, the biggest show of the night (or the week, depending on your taste) is The Black Keys with Artic Monkeys at BOK Center. This one was originally only going to use the lower bowl of the arena, but after initially selling up, they decided to open the upper level, making it one of the biggest rock shows with indie clout of the year. And if you're feeling rowdy, check out Barrelhouse Revelers at Mercury Lounge.

Sunday, April 29

Sunday evenings are usually pretty slow, but you can still find a couple good shows this week. Japanese novelty pop act Peelander Z headlines Crystal Pistol Sunday night while The Rocket Summer headlines an all-ages show at The Compound in Bixby for Christian rock crowd and fans of more songwriter oriented pop.

Tuesday, May 1

Modern rock fans and the younger set will be excited with the return of Awolnation after appearing at The Edge's Ugly Christmas Sweater concert last December, but this time the band gets a full set to headline with support from Neon Trees and Chain Gang of 1974. Finally, the biggest party of the week (Month? Possibly of the year?) hits BOK Center on Tuesday night as the mighty Van Halen finally returns to Tulsa and ups the ante by bringing Kool & the Gang along to make sure the evening is a celebration from start to finish. This one provides something for everyone, from pop to hard rock to funk fans. Arrive early and plan on calling in sick on Wednesday.
