The Mystical Writings of Dionysius -
Having provided an introduction to spiritual theology in the fall semester,
the spring semester will examine in greater detail the writings
of some individual mystics of the Church, beginning with Dionysius the Areopagite. Though his writings were few, and his life was shrouded in mystery, he profoundly influenced the Middle Ages. Hailed by St. Bonaventure as the “prince of mystics,’ he is quoted in the writings of St. Thomas more than any other theologian.
