There seems to be a common thread in Back alley reviews...bad service. Went there last night and got plenty of bad service. My waitress was MIA for the first 10 minutes and I nearly left when she showed up to take our orders. Then it was the looong wait for our food. People at the table beside ours were also asking where their orders were. The food was mediocre bbq at best. The brisket on my sandwich looked like roast beef. Not like any brisket I'd ever had. I wont be going back.

Went to Back Alley last night for the first time and will definitely go back. The BBQ was excellent the music great but the best thing was are waitress. She was friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. She was really a great salesman for the restaurant and seemed very sincere. I wish I had gotten her name so I could tell Mr. Ewing what a jewel he has. My only criticism, and this is just my preference is that I would have liked the vinegar based BBQ sauce to be less sweet.

Went to Back Alley on Friday evening Nov. 4 for our sons Birthday dinner (he loves BBQ)...arrived about 6:30 with a party of nine...had called ahead and was seated promply...thats where things began to fall apart. ordered appetizers and they arrived with no individual plates for everyone to share...asked for small plates and was ignored...never got plates...asked for a round of water...finally got after 3 requests...server finally took order around 7:15 pm and forgot to take the order of one of the people at our table...tracked server down and she got missed order. About 7:30 server started coming back to table to tell everyone what they ordered the kitchen was out of (Ribs, Beans)she made 2 different trips to tell us they were out of something... 7:30 Friday night the two best sellers the kitchen ran out of...what a joke. Finally about 8pm our orders started to trickle out of the kitchen...3 people got their order...15 minutes later 3 more people got their order and in another 15 minutes the last 3 orders were presented (45 minutes to get everyone at out table served)...I asked to speak to the manager and was told that she was to busy in the kitchen to talk to me. Another person in our party tried to go find the manager and was told she was just to busy to talk to anyone. When we finally got our food it was terrible...my wife's onion rings were cold, dripping with grease and the onions inside were raw...my french fires were cold, limp and dripping in grease..my wife told the server that the food was pathetic. Almost everyone in our party left 90% of the food on their plate saying it was not eatable. The server said she would talk to the manager for us...she returned saying she was very sorry and the manager agreed to comp half our food tab but we would have to pay for the bar tab which I agreed to just to get out of the place. Overall the food was bad, the service was bad... I will never return to Back Alley and since I work downtown I will tell everyone and anyone who will listen about our dreadful experience

Stopped by today with wife an daughter,lunch.. A little busy, short wait, not bad.Went for the BBQ nachos they sounded awesome( and could have been!)...once delivered, noticed they forgot the tomatoes and the slather of BBQ sauce that was in the description. The sprinkling of brisket seemed a little light also.Wife had pulled pork sandwich that was also light on meat. Just a note BBQ is exspensive and has a lot of competion in this area. A little attention to detail goes a long way.I will say the loaded baked potato and the onion rings were quite good.would I go back?.. Hmm not sure.

I've been to back alley blues and BBQ four times since they've opened. My first experience here was with a slow waitress not noticing me but the food was so great I couldn't stay mad. It is definitely the best BBQ in town. They're back alley beatdown sandwich is glorious!!! If there is one mistake you can make in Tulsa it's not coming by to check this place out. Excellent food with a totally chill atmosphere. I love this place.

Merileigh19, My name is Blake. I'm the owner of Back Alley Blues & BBQ. I'm terribly sorry for your experience with us. None of what happened is okay and it's not close our standard for service. It sounds like you were the victim of the perfect storm of frustrating new restaurant struggles. I would like to apologize to you myself and work to earn your business once again. With each day, we're improving our service, our speed, and our food consistency. It often takes a new restaurant a little time to get these things worked out. We know this and are trying to be ready and equipped to handle these growing pains as effectively as possible. It appears we've let you down on many levels and I'm very sorry about that. My number is 918.991.8252 and my e-mail address is blakeewing3232@gmail.com I'd love to speak with you personally if you'll give me that opportunity. I'm going to refund your past visit and invite you to come back for another complimentary visit to the restaurant. I'm confident that we will do better on your next visit and I'd be grateful for the opportunity to change your mind about us. Please know that we're not a part of the McNellies group. They are our neighbors and we're appreciative of what they do as well. I would hate it if your bad experience at our restaurant tainted your feelings about their establishments. We're all working hard to grow a district of fresh, locally owned concepts. We're working hard to make The Blue Dome District Tulsa's best area for local dining and entertainment. New restaurant concepts take some time to get their footing. We're really committed to trying not to upset people along the way. When we fail, as we did with you, we're going to work to correct those mistakes. Thank you for visiting Back Alley. I look forward to speaking with you. Blake Ewing

Just got back from a lunch where I spent 50 minutes in restaurant and didn’t get a single bite of food but LOTS of very bad service. My party of 2 entered restaurant off of Elgin street and walked down a long hallway to enter eating area. (Atmosphere is a modern version of rendezvous BBQ in Memphis) We were seated by waitress passing by as the Elgin entrance appears to be a back entrance to restaurant. Upon being seated we sat for approximately 5 minutes before being greeted. A server approaches us and asks is she can help us and I ask a question about potatoes on the menu since there is not description on menu as what the difference between potatoes may be. She says she doesn’t know she is in training and will have to ask someone. So she asks for our drink order and I ask for lemonade. From my view of the restaurant, I can see a large picture of icy yummy looking lemonade sitting in the bar area. The waitress proceeds to ask me sweet or un-sweet? I say nicely I would like some lemonade and she looks at me very confused and says I don’t think we have lemonade the only thing anyone has ordered is tea or Pepsi. So I point out the jug of lemonade and she says she will have to ask if they can serve us lemonade. At that point she starts to walk off and my boyfriend has to shout after her that he wants water so she comes back to the table and says she will check on potatoes?? As she says this another waitress stops by and gives us the potato information. After dropping off the drinks the trainee leaves us sitting there without taking our order. Another 5 minutes go by and yet another waitress shows up to take our order. So we sit there and sit there and sit there .......... for forty minutes. At no point does anyone stop by to help us with anything. I flag down our waitress to ask for more to drink and she mentions food will be there in a little while. At this point I check my cell clock and see I have already been gone from work for 60 minutes. I flag the waitress down and ask her to go ahead and bring us the bill and switch our food to takeout. 5 minutes later our food shows up boxed up but no bill. When the bill shows up she tries to drop it and leave but I was in the process of pulling out my card so she says "Oh you want me to go ahead and take it?" So when she drops of the bill I sign in a hurry and leave. After getting back to work I notice the check was WRONG. I never sign before leaving but was in such a hurry that of course I paid the wrong bill. At this point I am beyond upset, so I call and ask for the manager. I get to talk to front of the house manager Aaron. He said this was a soft opening. Thats it. He offers to make it right if I will come back in and eat another day. But will not refund my credit card for the WRONG amount. I point out to him that if I paid the wrong bill chances are someone else is having a bad experience right now as well because they have wrong check. He didn’t seem to care and gave me a very sarcastic response. I was trying my hardest to remain civil but at this point I hung up as management did not seem to be any more capable than the wait staff. I spent my college days waiting tables so I understand soft openings are not perfect; but, I have been to several other McNellie's Group soft openings and didn’t experience anything like this. The total incompetency and ineptness was amazing. I love Dilly Deli and McNellie's but right now I am so disappointed I will not be giving any money to McNellie's Group for a long time.
