Lovers Unite. Galleries are abuzz with activity at the beginning of each month, and MA Doran Gallery, 3509 S. Peoria, is no exception. Art fans gather here tonight from 5-8pm for the opening of the "Valentine's Group Show," on display for the month of February. Pictured is Kreg Kallenberger's Rock Island Canyon, a sculpture crafted from optical lead crystal and oil paint. He is said to have achieved a delightful balance between sophisticated writing and a strong stage presence. Someday...If you're feeling romantic this afternoon, come to the PAC, 110 E. 2nd St., for the final performance of Tulsa Ballet's Cinderella at 3pm in Chapman Music Hall. Ben Stevenson's rendition of the classic tale has been revitalized with new costumes and sets, and is considered to be the definitive version of this ballet for our time. The ugly stepsisters, portrayed by male dancers, provide a humorous counterpoint to the sweet romance between the delicate Cinderella and her handsome Prince. Finish Me. Tulsa's seen a lot of metal bands come through town recently; and if you're a fan, be sure to check out As I Lay Dying tonight at Cain's Ballroom, 423 N. Main. The new album An Ocean Between Us, is more lyrically diverse than past discs, according to vocalist and one of the founding members, Tim Lambesis. The band prides itself on adaptability and willingness to take things in a new direction. Mellow Mood. There's nothing like a soothing serenade to accompany the evening meal. One of Tulsa's best known singer-songwriters, Steve Liddell, now plays regular Tuesday night gigs at Joe Momma's downtown, First and Elgin. If you haven't heard him before, Liddell draws upon folk, rock, jazz and reggae, among other influences, to create his soulful tunes. He's been a mainstay at the SXSW Music and Film Festival in Austin for the past few years and continues to play locally and regionally. Handicrafts. What's better than working in one medium? Mixed media, of course. The work of Sharyl Landis is a blend of hand-dyed textiles with beaded accents, adding a whimsical, 3D quality to the fabrics. Landis' innate artistic tendencies were fostered since childhood by her mother; and throughout her life, she has explored different combinations of colors, shapes and textures. Landis has had entries in the OKC juried Fiberworks show three times and has displayed her work in Philbrook's Festival of Trees for the last 13 years. Her work hangs now at Thyme Bistro, 3023 S. Harvard, through February 27.
