Yeah! What He Said

Dear Editor:

When was the last time we heard from our politicians that the American Sprit of hard work and self-determination shall overcome? Instead, we hear, "American's can't do it, we have lost our edge, and Uncle Sam needs to rescue us by taking control of our health, money, property, and lives."

With this notion, I wholeheartedly disagree. This is the nation that won Independence from, at the time, the worlds largest superpower, we freed African slaves by sacrificing American blood from all skin colors, we pioneered and settled the West, we built the wealthiest nation in history through capitalistic ideals, we gave women the right to vote, we built the Panama Canal, we defeated the enemies of liberty in two World Wars, we cured Polio, we walked on the moon, we ended segregation, we won the Cold War, and most recently, we liberated two Muslim nations from the tyranny of Islamo-Fascism.

We are a people that can reach any height, overcome any obstacle, and face any challenge. Today, I call for my fellow Americans to buck up, stop listening to the political class of naysayers, and get to work! We do not need their recipe for total control of our lives through the so-called "stimulus package"; and we do not need a political slogan of, "Yes we can." Instead, we need to believe that, "We will!"

Living on a Prayer

Dear Editor:

I am an Independent and I am polarized against Republican opinions on anything now. I am totally result orientated-why listen to fools. The Republican Party and their apologists have failed this nation in economics, ideologies and theologies. I do not read their columnists and I change channels when they speak. The Republican Party is forever branded as the Party of the prejudiced and privileged. The Christians need to disassociate themselves from these hypocrites; they have disgraced Jesus. They are the publicans and money changers He condemned, and the Churls condemned in Isaiah 32. Republicans will not solve their wedge issues, because without the Christians they would only have the wealthy, the ignorant and the aristocrats. Republicans do not care about the unborn they refuse to provide for the sick and poor children here now-hypocrites, lairs and thieves! Examples of their stupid issues run from Ten Commandments on public property to "In God we Trust" on license plates. This would be OK for individuals to choose, but not on public vehicles. However I would be in favor of a mandatory statement on all public vehicles-"Pray for Wisdom"-LOL.

Happy Hollyday

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Time Well Spent" by Holly Wall in the Feb. 11-17 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

Your Arts Writer, Holly Wall, did a fine review of my paintings before the opening of my show at the Pierson gallery. She was perceptive, knowledgeable and dedicated. I especially appreciate the balance in her report that accurately reflected my thoughts.

Ms. Wall surely has a promising future; the Urban Tulsa Weekly is fortunate to have such talent on its staff.

Sincerely yours,

Stanley Hess
