Dear Editor:

Cory Cheney writes like a sulky teenager giving a book report. He has no knowledge of any aspect of cinema and frequently includes infuriating personal anecdotes that have little to nothing to do with the movie. His writing has been making me sick for years, and I read it for the same reason that I give road kill a lingering stare while driving.

Positive Connection

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Hear Me Roar" in the June 25 -- Oct. 1 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

I deeply enjoyed the article on Fiawna Forte. It's really good to know that there are youths using the negativity in their lives as motivation, turning it into positive energy, and living their dreams. I took particular interest in this article because we have a mutual friend and I hope to be working with her in the near future.

Make the Pledge

Dear Editor:

There are powerful liberal forces today, who are working to remove the words "one nation under God" from our Pledge to the Flag and the words "in God we trust" from our currency. We can help to overcome this with a constitutional amendment which states: "This Constitution upholds the words 'one nation under God' in our Pledge to the Flag and 'In God we trust' on our currency." Neither the Supreme Court nor the President can override a Constitutional Amendment.

In 1952, the U.S. Congress inserted the words, "one nation under God," into the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. The Congress at that time stated: "Our American government is founded on the concept of individuality and the dignity of the human being. Underlying this concept is the belief that the human person is Important because he was created by God and endowed by Him with certain unalienable rights which no civil authority may usurp." The insertion of these four powerful words make all the difference in our American way of life. They teach that we are not upholding our nation above God and His laws. It underscores the difference between a free nation with a limited government and a totalitarian state that demands that we make our highest allegiance to the government instead of to God, which occurred in communism and Nazism and which is occurring today even in our beloved America with abortion-on-demand through all nine months of pregnancy and in other unjust actions of our government.

We should contact our elected representatives and ask them to co-sponsor the proposed amendment. You can reach your two U.S. Senators at U.S. Senate, Washington, D.C. 20510 and you can reach your member of the House of Representatives at U.S. House of Representatives, Washington, D.C. 20515. Power in Numbers

Dear Editor:

Things you believe may be wrong. Life is a journey for truth.

Most choose to go with the mob--right or wrong. Truth is not as important as being accepted in the gang. If Santa Claus makes a list of naughty and nice--not seeking truth is a naughty. God may have the same criteria? Believing everything you read in the papers, TV, blogs, preachers, or politicians is also a no-know. Kults have always been popular; a home for the lazy, biased and uninspired. Political parties and religions use propaganda and lies to gain power and profits. First rule to know: there is no chosen people. Second: God has no army, only peacemakers. Third: If it is not Good it is not God-the same ancient word. Go to church for brotherhood. Just do good and God will find you anywhere. Political parties are not about helping you or America--it is about helping themselves. Independents only are free to do right! How your elected vote should be on the front page of every paper-but it is not, another big no-know.

Brain to be Exploited

Dear Editor:

Our new generation of not using one's brain has created an enigma of slave-brains. Brains indoctrinated by teachers whose agendas capture virgin minds. These mind-benders want brains to conform to their inclusive, intrusive, illusive contrivances to create of culture of submissive zombies.

Whatever happened to free spirits, creative, happy to be, open to the universe with excitement. Just to be alive in this free country with all its beauties and opportunities to be?

Not ignoring the hate of heads being cut off by scumbags of the world. Content to deny any violence, open to reality and God's unending love. Gentle, kind non-abusive in any way. Brains that care, brains that cannot be swayed by perverted teachers of mayhem and discontent.

Few will read this and change directions. Pristine brains as born become polluted by those who follow their own invented disorientations. God forbid those who settle for brain captivity leaving themselves open to hypocritical villains who rule our schools.

Do not let your children's virgin brains fall desolate and unfulfilled by a societal brainwash. Find a college that teaches values not chaos, harmony not derision.

The choice is yours and ultimately you will be rewarded with kind, loving, thoughtful, honorable kids. I have.

The More the Merrier

Dear Editor:

There they go again!

Last year at this time, American voters united to successfully oppose the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act promulgated by Bush & Company. This year, the man who promised "change" is now promising the same racist immigration scheme.

There are six billion people in the world, living in almost two hundred countries. This new proposal grants special treatment to thirty million Mexicans and Central Americans, plus their relatives, at tremendous national expense, while penalizing all other nationalities who remain in their home countries dreaming of United States citizenship.

The Haitians and Africans, Poles and Latvians, Indians and Pakistanis... are they not also worthy human beings? They have been promised an application process that is orderly, non-political, and legal.

Ordinary citizens - Republicans and Democrats - are not anti-immigrant.

Our politicians are. Once again, they want to ignore bonafide applicants, in selfish deference to business interests and to potential legal or illegal Latino votes.

We welcome immigrants and we have a process. Let's keep it fair!

Taylor for Congress

Dear Editor:

Redneck Oklahoma has never had a female U.S. Senator and had only two Congresswomen, Alice Mary Robertson (1920-22) and Mary Fallin (2006-present).

This taxation without representation for Okie women is the pits.

Fallin is giving up her seat to run for governor and that could leave us with a stag-party Congressional delegation, again.

Because we, women, are 51 percent of the U.S. population, we deserve half of all legislative bodies.

So, this feminist granny suggests drafting Tulsa retiring Democratic mayor, Kathy Taylor, to run against my Republican Congressman, John Sullivan, currently rehabbing at the Betty Ford clinic for alcoholics.

Here's why Taylor would be a good Congresswoman:

1. She has her own jet plane to fly back and forth to the nation's capital.

2. She has the do-re-me to fund a million-dollar campaign just like she did when she ran for mayor.

3. She learned state government when she was a member of Gov. Brad Henry's cabinet.

4. She mastered city and county government in four years at City Hall.

5. She supported Barack Obama for president so that will give her back-door access to the White House.

6. She has a mansion worthy of a Congressional "hostess with the mostest."

7. She has demonstrated to city and county official that she has the quality possessed by great members of Congress--a mean streak.

Run, Kathy, run.

Statue of Liberty?

Dear Editor:

(In response to "It's Alive" in the July 2-8 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly. The article provided readers with an update on the planned 217-foot bronze sculpture called "The American." Find it online at urbantulsa.com.)

No! This is an atrocity. It is a monolithic, gross gimmick to bring in tourists. Yuk. It does not honor Native Americans. It will be an eye sore. I am deeply sad for Tulsa's future

right now.

This statue is a swollen ego project. It is this sculptor turning his icon of some idealized memory of a Native American into a statue that dwarfs the Statue of Liberty. Ask the question, "Why?" Is it to promote NA culture? There's many better ways to do that than spending millions of dollars on an antiquated vision. It certainly doesn't represent the present NA culture. Could it be to make money? Most assuredly, and I don't care about some private entities profiting off of my shared skyline. And I don't want the kind of tourists that this joke would bring to the city, drooling gawkers that care more about buying vacation t-shirts than NA culture or Tulsans. I can continue. But I've wasted enough breath on this. I just hope it doesn't go any further than a vanity article in UTW.

P.S. The Statue of Liberty was a gift between two countries. And it was placed in the largest US city. It did not overshadow the skyline. It also was a symbol of, well, liberty. The AI is not a symbol of anything but a way of life that is all but extinct, thanks in great part to "development."

Dear Editor:

I was really against this statue at first, not because of the idea, but because it was lacking artistic wise and could have made us a laughing stock. But if that image is any indication, it appears that there have been some changes made to the original version. The anatomy, musculature, skeletal structure etc. looks more correct. The raised hand still looks a little "limp," in my personal opinion, to be one in which someone is expecting an eagle to be landing on the arm.

But that's no big deal... just a personal thought. My main beef with the old version that was shown was the right foot had the heel placed up on a rock and the front part on the ground in a very awkward position in which nobody would ever stand. Can't tell in (the published) picture whether that has been corrected, but the right leg does appear to be set at a little different angle now.
