Source of Knowledge. A fresh new month means a fresh new exhibit at the Tulsa PAC Gallery, 2nd and Cincinnati. The latest exhibition features G. Bryant Boyd's expressionist painting series "La Musa" ("The Muse"). Also exhibited are cityscapes influenced by the work of Wassily Kandinsky and Egon Schiele. Boyd says the style developed by Kandinsky and others in the early 20th century freed painting from the convention of perspective and absolved color from all fidelity to the subject. On All Fours. This month's First Friday Art Crawl takes to the streets tonight from 6-11pm. The crawl begins at Gypsy's Coffee House where guests will find "A Moment of Clarity: Bust & Mixed Media by Kathleen Pendergrass." Other participants include The Project Gallery with a ceramic sculpture display at Wallace Engineering. Other stops include the central part of the Brady District with Brady Artists' Studio, CFC Choclatier, Tulsa Glassblowing Studio, Tulsa Artists' Coalition, Chrysalis Salon and Lola's. The crawl comes to an end at Club 209, The Arts Bar. This is a free event to the public. Wear your walking shoes and experience some fine art enhanced by the fine weather.

Boom Boom Pow. It's hard to appreciate a fancy sound system when it's rolling by your crib at 3am and waking up your dog. Leave Fido at home and head over to the 2009 Car Audio World Finals today at the Tulsa Convention Center, 100 Civic Ctr., and get a good look at some high-tech rides that do more than just go bump in the night. The event runs October 3 and 4 from 10am-6pm each day. The event features a car show and sound off contest, a Guitar Hero contest, a tattoo and push-up contest, a live DJ and lots more. Deep Fried Fun. School's back in action, the weather is cooling off and the leaves are beginning to yellow, so let's have a big freakin' party, shall we? The Tulsa State Fair is in full swing this week from Oct. 1-11 at Expo Square, 4145 E. 21st St. All the basics are covered: tons of rides, lots of exhibits and guys with headset microphones selling something you'd be stupid not to buy, lots of food choices (stick or no stick?), live music from the likes of Everclear, the Charlie Daniels Band, Shinedown and many others throughout the week, carnies and, of course, a midway full of games no human can ever win. Oh So Suite. An 88-year-old, award-winning artist shares his work with the University of Tulsa this month. Warrington Colescott, one of the country's legendary statesmen of printmaking, is recognized for his trademark style of blending several printmaking techniques to create one piece of work, according to the Rockford Art Museum. The artist's work deals with themes from popular culture, addresses American social issues and pokes fun at those in power. Colescott presents "Suites and Singles: Color Etchings" at the Alexandre Hogue Gallery in TU's Phillips Hall, 2935 E. Fifth St., thru October 31. Free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Tweet Update. Need to brush up on integrating the news media of old with the newest Twitter social network? Come out and listen to Press Forward: Lessons for Today's Journalists at 6pm at the Tulsa Press Club, 415 S. Boston. KRMG morning news host, Joe Kelley, and Tulsa World web editor, Jason Collington, will moderate and lead the event as audience members listen, learn and debate about using social media for today and tomorrow news coverage. Dynamic Duo. Fancy yourself an art collector but you don't have the green to make it happen? Find some encouragement with the tale of Herb & Dorothy, playing now at the Circle Cinema, 12 S. Lewis. This documentary tells the story of postal clerk Herb Vogel and his wife Dorothy, a librarian, and how this pair amassed a huge collection of contemporary art on a shoestring budget. They only have two rules for buying art: it must be in a price range they can afford and it must fit in their small one-bedroom Manhattan apartment. Don't Hate the 918. If the 918's a rockin', you better come a knockin'. The Tulsa Area United Way has teamed up with Tulsa's Young Professional for a battle of the bands contest called "Rock the 918." Tonight at Cain's Ballroom, 423 N. Main, the lineup includes A.M. 60, Black Water & the Sons of the Gatekeeper, BleedCircuit, Eric and the Adams (pictured), Paul Benjaman Band and Persuaders. Vote online for the People's Choice Award until Oct. 7 at 5pm. At the event, the celebrity judges will choose one lucky band as the winner.
