Gaining Motivation

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Another Year Wasted" in the Dec. 31-Jan. 6 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

When reading the truths within Arnold Hamilton's articles concerning Oklahoma politics, one would have to be ignorant not to be infuriated with the frivolous spending of both time and money. Current representatives need lessons in what could be called 'priority management'. I pose the question: When was the last time that anything was REALLY accomplished through the current system? I can think of multiple reasons why nothing of worth seems to be getting done:

1) The people that are hired to do the job don't know how to do the job effectively.

2) The people that are hired to do the job aren't able to do the job effectively due to a corrupt or broken system.

3) The people that are hired to do the job are confused about what the job really is.

The only other plausible alternative is that our hired representatives are doing their jobs and we are simply oblivious to all of their hard work. If this were true then we should at least see the product of all their hard work. Why is there no product? Why does it seem like nothing is getting accomplished? It is not our job, as the employer, to motivate our employees to do the job effectively and efficiently?

Within any industry these same employees would have been laid off long ago! The irony is that many of these Representatives were, at one time, or are leaders within very successful industries.

So what's the answer; are our employees inadequate or confused? Is the system corrupt or broken? What is keeping these individuals from doing their job effectively? Also, what kind of employers are we to let our employees get away with so much? Something must be done soon, otherwise we will continue this downward spiral towards complete obliteration. Then again, maybe that's exactly what needs to happen!

More on Health Care

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Full Coverage or None" in the Dec. 24-30 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

Why is it a liberal's argument for changing health care can never mention two simple words: tort reform? Tom Adelson's latest contribution ("Full Coverage or None", UTW Vol. 19, No. 29) never mentions it once.

Want to talk about evil insurance companies and instances of dysfunctional private care? Fine. There's a lot of room to work with there. But let's have a mention of the parasites that helped weaken the present system and brought it to the brink of ruin.

Most doctors and hospitals in this day and age pay more for malpractice insurance than they make in income. Those costs are passed along to the consumer in the form of ever-increasing premiums. We pay at least twice what we should have to pay for health coverage in America, and a large portion of that is going to ambulance-chasers.

To attorney Tom Adelson and Barack Obama, tort reform is forever the bridge that can't be crossed and the horse that can't be ridden. Let's call it "That Which Cannot Be Spoken Of". For we dare not take money from the pockets of our litigating brethren.

Wake me up when a Democrat with "Esquire" after their name wants to talk about tort reform.

Dry Holes

Dear Editor:

When we, Okies, get a dry hole, we stop drilling, pull out the rig, plug the well and find another place to gamble for liquid gold.

Being a nerd, President Obama has never had to deal with that revolting development.

Here's why Afghanistan will be the president's first dry hole:

It's a nation of savages--29.1 percent literacy--who won't let women out of the house.

It has a law permitting Shiite men to withhold food from their wives who refuse sex.

It's not a vital interest to the U.S. of A.

The British and the Russians tried to rule the Afghans and gave up their occupations.

The enemy--Taliban and al-Qaida--doesn't wear uniforms and can be identified only when they shoot at you.

Our troops are sitting ducks for roadside bombs and suicide bombers.

Obama has elected to waste millions and spill more American blood trying to take our 51st state out of a dry hole.

He thinks if he says, "no" to the war machine and brings our troops home, it will get him and our Democratic party beat at the next election. Just the opposite is true.

We would treat the president like we do oilies who drill dry holes. We don't kick them when they are down or hold it against them and we give them a chance to get up.

And so would the majority of our citizens.
