Exploiting the Planet

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Other Fish in the Sea ... Maybe" in the July 1-7 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

I have said it for years, you can't keep exploiting the planet's natural resources and remain ignorant of the fact at some point a balance of nature will be thrown off.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense who has a reverence for history and those catastrophic events we have seen again and again are the works of mother nature reminding us all of how we have been tasked with a responsibility to be better stewards.

But largely we remain ignorant and have to be reminded of the delicate balance of our environment, the food chain and the cycle of life and how each of us has a role in it all.

It's apparent until something is no longer available to exploit, abuse and take from an industry, very much like you would imprison a juvenile for the lack of respect of personal property or of human beings in general, our personal freedoms we now enjoy such as plentiful bountiful food water and energy once these were considered rare and had much revered (respect) of convenient access to all of them and largely considered by many as a luxury. Our society needs to be reconditioned very soon, arrogance and self-indulgence have absorbed all the ethics we once were renown for, we have conditioned, promoted a society to regard these resources as a right.

And in the process in our slumber, we have become enslaved to convenience at the flip of a switch or the turn of a tap.

Remove the convenience and ease of availability to these precious resources and you then get people thinking again about the repercussion of their actions.

Upon waking up from their deep slumber, they are reminded of their personal responsibilities to their community and to the generations of families before them in passing on to the next generation these invaluable resources and lessons of being the sole steward over all dominion and over all kingdoms, Animal, Plant and Mineral alike.

Practice What You Register

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Making Change" in the July 1-7 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

Calling Perkins an Independent is ridiculous because he is a registered Republican. He doesn't even have enough integrity to practice what he preaches by changing his voter registration to Independent.

Perkins is just a whiner and a windbag.

There needs to be a charter change to prevent registered partisans from exploiting a loophole in the charter that allows them to run as Independent candidates without changing their voter registration to Independent.

No Control

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Not Always Second Fiddle" in the June 24-30 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

The city council is completely out of control. The city has been in continual decline since the council form of government began. That is undeniable. A city manager employed at the whim of the council will completely destroy what is left of this city government. We would all be far better off to return to commission government, when there was some real accountability in Tulsa. If we put such nonsense as a city manager on the ballot this fall, at least give us the option of going back to accountable commissioners.

Point the Right Way

Dear Editor:

(In response to "Ethnic Cleansing in Kyrgyzstan" in the June 24-30 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

Rall gives away the intent of his column in the first paragraph -- "believe it or not I don't scour the headlines looking for ... atrocities to blame on the United States."

Believe it. That's exactly what he does. If there's even a shred of blame to be assigned to the U.S., either in a tertiary sense, or in hopeless situations where well-meaning U.S. help was ineffective or counterproductive, Rall is always johnny-on-the-spot with the blame finger.

Rall's conspiracy theories concerning the CIA and the evil military-industrial complex are amusing. Our CIA isn't the brightest lot, but we should give them credit for having better things to do than destabilize out-of-the-way, third-world regimes for no apparent reason.
