Helping Hands. Guts Church, 9120 E. Broken Arrow Expy., opened the new Guts Distribution Center on April 22. In August 2010, the church began an outreach called Friday Groceries, which distributes food to needy Tulsa-area families.
With the launch of the Distribution Center, Friday Groceries is expanding into a full-time location solely focused on meeting the needs of the community on a much larger scale.
In addition to groceries and hot meals being provided on a weekly basis, vouchers to the new thrift store will be given out to families needing basic items from household appliances to shoes and clothing. Life skills training classes, including GED prep, resume and job interview training, will also be made available to those in need of assistance in these areas.

Aficionado Reporting. Washington, D.C. journalist Joan Biskupic will be the speaker at Tulsa Press Club's 2011 Distinguished Journalism Lectureship. The luncheon is May 13 at noon at the University of Tulsa's Allen Chapman Activity Center, 440 S. Gary Ave.
Biskupic has covered the Supreme Court for more than 20 years, working as USA Today's legal affairs correspondent since 2000. Before this, Biskupic was The Washington Post's Supreme Court correspondent, co-authoring two Pulitzer Prize-nominated series, Sentencing by the Numbers and The Secrets of the Marshall Papers.
This is the fourth year for the Distinguished Journalism Lectureship. All of the proceeds from the event will go to the Tulsa Press Club Foundation. Call 918-583-7737 for more information.

Pretty Princess. Miss Dorothy Gay, 14, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Oklahoma Pageant to be held July 8-10 at the Tulsa Marriott Southern Hills, 1902 E. 71st St.
The National American Miss pageants are held for girls ages 4-18, and have five different age divisions. Dorothy will participate in the Junior Teen Pageant age division, along with other outstanding young ladies from across the state.
The winner of the Pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete in the National Pageant in California.

Fitting Together. The annual Piece Walk & 5K, hosted by the Oklahoma Family Center for Autism, will step off May 7 at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. All funds raised for the Piece Walk stay in state to help Oklahoma families and foundations.
Opening ceremonies begin at 8am and the Piece Walk mascot "DASH the Puzzle Piece" sets the Piece Walk into motion at 8:30am with a family-friendly one-mile stroll around the ballpark.
A Resource Fair will begin at 7:30am including exhibitors such as Today's Therapy Solutions and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Instrument Playground, bounce houses, play dough tables and more. Visit piecewalk.org for more information.
Each year, Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology is the host for the statewide Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition. This year's contest brought together juniors and seniors from 10 technology centers across Oklahoma.
This year's first place winning team was from Moore Norman Technology Center. Students Lathan Springer and Donovan Peters, along with instructor Lee Dow, made up the winning team. They will represent the state in the National Hands-on Finals in June at Ford Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
