A Blessing. Oklahoma Knights of Columbus State Deputy Dan Hogan presented a check last Thursday to St. Gregory's University President D. Gregory Main. The donation, which totaled $29,000, will go to support the university's scholarship fund. The presentation was made at a special community Mass inside St. Gregory's Abbey Church. The Knights and SGU have
partnered since 1915 in promoting Catholic higher education.
Under Construction. Street School, a non-profit alternative school of choice, held a kitchen wall-smashing event to kick-start the extreme makeover of their kitchen.
Street School began occupying the old Franklin Elementary School in 1988 and since that time, they have been without a functioning kitchen. Once the makeover begins, students are targeted to have a working kitchen by Thanksgiving.
Since 1988, Tulsa Public Schools has transported breakfast and lunch each day to Street School for more than 150 students and staff. Sixty-two percent of those students that respond participate in the free and reduced meal plan. Often times, the food served at Street School is the only nutritious meal received.
The existing kitchen at Street School had out of date equipment in addition to a layout that no longer made sense for today's standards.
In 2010, Street School began a campaign to raise more than $250,000 to renovate the kitchen as the first phase of the student nutrition and culinary education program. Each year, students and their families are treated to a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The meal is complimentary and made possible by community supporters.
Storytime. The Tulsa Library Trust received a $2,000 grant from Target continuing its support of the family literacy project "Read to Me and I'll Read to You," offered by Tulsa City-County
Library's Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service.

Through the project, family literacy specialist Shawna Smith conducts workshops for parents of infants through early primary years. Parents who attend a workshop receive printed information on the importance of reading to children, tips and techniques to help make reading aloud fun and educational, and new age-appropriate paperback books to take home and read aloud with their children. The workshops are offered at preschools, day cares and other organized parent groups.
This grant is part of Target's ongoing efforts to strengthen families and communities throughout the country. Whether helping kids with reading, making art available to all or offering emergency aid during times of crisis, Target demonstrates its commitment to serving the community by giving more than $3 million a week. Since 1946, Target has given 5 percent of its income through community grants and programs that support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism nationally and in local communities.

Player Practice. Enrollment is now open for Owasso Community Theatre Company's first fall session of Acting Workshop geared toward
creating a love of theatre in young thespians.
This six week course will cover different aspects of life in the theatre and encourage students to take part in theatre onstage or backstage. No experience is necessary and courses are divided by skill levels to encourage participation and skill development.
Workshop classes will be lead by Chris Middlebrook, a experienced professional performer from Sheffield, England. He performed in professional theater in London's West End and worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber. Since moving to Tulsa just over 4 years ago, he has formed his own entertainment company, BAM Entertainment and now offers all kinds of entertainment solutions across Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Missouri.
