If you thought Rude Amps were just a flash in the pan that would quickly burn out and fade away, think again. After exploding on the scene in late 2010 and burning up local stages earlier in the year, the band has layed low as of late, but is ready to make its presence known once again with a new set of songs and a desire to reach out to new markets.

With an opportunity to open once again for Peelander Z at The Marquee this Friday night, Sept. 9, the band decided to capitalize on the night and release a new disc of songs to tide fans over until the next studio release and rejuvenate the bandís set list. When speaking with band leader Lisandro Boux Rude earlier in the summer, he shared that the bandís previous Marquee show with Peelander Z was one of the groupís best and most fun shows to date. When the chance came up to reprise the experience this fall, it was a no-brainer.

The band has been in the recording studio working with Jordon McCleod on a proper follow up to debut disc Vicious Wave, but the process is taking longer than initially expected. In the interim, Rude Amps is dropping Hearts Felt Hollow, a 13 track compilation of songs that Boux Rude says "we've never played publically -- but we will now!"

Essentially, this is a disc of demos and otherwise lost songs that he described as "recorded in closets and bedrooms" over the past year or longer. Less surf-oriented than Vicious Wave, this package of songs is still raw and energetic, channeling more of a garage rock vibe and at times a slightly more Beatlesque tone (via latter era, late '60s Beatles).

All of the songs were written and recorded by Boux Rude on his own, with multiple projects in mind. A few songs were originally written for a film project, but the vast majority of the album was written and recorded over the course of the past year. When asked why he decided to release the disc, Boux Rude shared, "I thought it was kind of a waste to let the songs sit and not be heard." He also admitted that it gives the band more material to play live while working on the new studio CD.

The show with Peelander Z provided a great springboard for the band to release Hearts Felt Hollow, which that band is putting out on a grass-roots level. All the discs are being burned by the band and released in spray-painted cases to make it as cost-effective as possible. In essence, this truly is a demo disc in every sense, but the approach only adds to Rude Amps' raw underground vibe.

That's not to say the band and Boux Rude don't have their eyes set on higher goals or don't have a vision of the big picture. Boux Rude shared that the band will be making videos for the songs as well and continue to push its online presence to keep putting material out. In addition the band is ready to start touring, beginning with taking on regional shows starting in October.

Mostly, Boux Rude wants to keep the band fresh. "It's hard, though, because we keep getting asked to play shows. We enjoy it and other bands enjoy playing with us, but I'm afraid we're oversaturating the market. We try to play in front of people we don't know or at least hope our friends will bring other people. That's why we really want to start touring."

In the bigger picture he shared that making a trip to California is also being pondered. "I know it's harder to go out there, but I think it would benefit us, especially if we could get out there once every couple of months." Realistically, he's just ready to get the band out and exposed to new audiences in new markets. The new songs are just a springboard to that.

Perhaps more than anything, Boux Rude explained the disc best when he said "It just feels like it's been awhile since we put out the last CD. I didn't want to go a whole year without releasing anything and the shiny, awesome new record that we're working on with Jordan is taking longer than we expected. That's not a bad thing. Jordan is just 'polishing the rocks,' so to speak. Part of our vibe is like we're baby musicians and Jordan is helping us get past that and holding us to a higher standard. That's great, but I really wanted to get something out so we could keep moving forward."

By emailing the band at rudeamps@gmail.com, they'll get you your ticket for the show for $10 and a copy of the new CD as well. After ticket sales, any remaining copies of the limited run of discs will be handed out at shows.

Rude Amps is also planning to record and film this weekend's show for future use. "We're not really sure what we'll do with the footage, but there's so much stuff on Youtube that people have recorded on their iPhones and stuff, we felt it's time to get something good out there," Boux Rude explained.

One thing is certain: Rude Amps isn't prone to sit still. With an energy that's contagious, the group continues to press on at its own pace to be one of the more exciting acts on the local scene. You can only expect they'll stick around a little longer, however, before the buzz launches them outside of Tulsa, so make sure and catch them this Friday night at The Marquee at 8pm.
