Wizard Writer

(In response to "We Don't Have To Be Muggles*" in the Sept. 22-28 issue of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

Over lunch in my office I read your supercomputing article in Urban Tulsa Weekly and found it interesting and informative. I've read your column a number of times and haven't been disappointed. Wishing you continued good writing and success!

Culinary Master

(In response to "A Fight Club for Foodies" in the Annual Manual publication of Urban Tulsa Weekly)

Many thanks to fellow foodie, Angela Evans of Urban Tulsa Weekly, whose culinary tease of Test Kitchen in their Annual Manual made my whole week.

American Philosophy

The Constitution did not form a Democracy! In the beginning only about a fourth of the people were allowed to vote; only males who owned 50 acres or more of land were allowed to vote; only the wealthy. The Constitution founded a free enterprise system controlled by the wealthy.

It took more than 200 years to make the Democratic gains that have given the opportunity for all Americans to live a good and productive life -- whether rich or poor all now have the opportunity to serve our country and to prosper. The past 30 years of conservative policies has shown the intense attack on beliefs that the Democratic Party has strived for, not to benefit themselves, but to benefit everyone.

The conservatives wish to return the country back to only the wealthy. They have fought programs implemented by the Democrats that have benefited the people, Conservatives have continued towards consolidating power back to the wealthy and big business. Conservatives are carrying out an organized, unrelenting campaign to destroy our most patriotic, morally and ethical values to the detriment of all but the wealthy. They want to kill all entitlements, no matter who they benefit. They want to destroy our education system, to rewrite history books so they can implement their own ideologies of selfishness and greed. They want to control all forms of government, federal and state only allowing those who they want to vote, to vote.

They will erase 200 years of struggles and growth, not for the rich, but the poor middle class. Let's talk taxes! How wonderful it would be if no one had to pay taxes, but we cannot have a civilized nation without them. We all must pay taxes. The ones who are blessed more, pay more, isn't that the moral and Christian thing to do? Aren't we supposed to love and take care of each other? God has no body on this earth but yours and mine, our heart is God's compassion to the world, our feet, hands and mind are to go about the world doing good -- if it is not good it is not God's work!! Has America lowered its' standards for leadership? Do the people who vote want to abandon the poor, the sick and needy? How can these changes be justified to God? If our country is not under Democracy, which loves its people, it is not under God!! God bless our democracy and all it strives for!

In Defense of Pets

It's the year 2011. We have put a man on the moon, and are now actually planning a mission to Mars.

We have the internet, which can connect us directly with someone across the world in seconds.

Robots have been created, that, for the right price will do our housework for us, make us breakfast, even become intimate with us.

Yet we still needlessly kill pets in so called "shelters" as if it's the year 1911.

I kindly ask all of my fellow Tulsans to support a new Act, that if passed into law, would move the animal sheltering system ahead a century in time, to the year 2011, where it should be.

The passing of this law would save lives (and taxpayer money). And saving lives is the pinnacle of success as an individual, as a city and as a society.

My fellow Tulsans, please support the Companion Animal Protection Act (CAPA).

To learn more about this life-saving, money-saving, compassionate Act, please visit: www.rescue50.org/capa.html

And then tell our City Council Members, Mayor, etc. to make this the law in Tulsa, like it is in many other US cities and communities.
