Spring has officially arrived, and the azaleas aren't the only thing blooming early this year. Tulsa's local concert calendar is also bursting early as well. As always, be sure to check our events and music calendars for full listings, but here are the highlights to help get you pointed out the door.
Thursday, April 5
If you want to stick to your comfort zone, chill out and enjoy Tulsa's rising act, Able the Allies at The Treehouse to kick start your weekend. If you're looking for something different, however, stop in at Crystal Pistol to rock out with Shady Rest and Corduroy Kids for a fresh jolt of energy.
Friday, April 6
Singer/songwriter icon Robert Earl Keen plays Cain's Ballroom in a special show that includes local act Philip Zoellner Band opening the evening. Meanwhile, Oscar Charles (of the band Apollo) is back in Tulsa for the weekend and playing a solo gig at Blue Rose Café in support of his recent CD, and The Colony brings in one of Red Dirt's Rising young stars, Parker Milsap, for a special evening while Crystal Pistol ups the ante with the always eclectic Jacob Abello.
Saturday, April 7
The biggest party of the weekend is the annual 80's Prom, which promises to sell out the IDL Ballroom complex once again this year. Make sure to get your tickets in advance and arrive early in your best retro 80's wear! Also in town on Saturday, Beats Antique is the show at Cain's Ballroom that has the hip crowd talking, All Shall Perish keeps the metal and all-ages crowd thrashing at Eclipse and Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward rocks Mercury Lounge.
Sunday, April 8
If you're not into the songwriter vibe with Brandon Clark at Mercury Lounge or Paul Benjaman at The Colony, you can wrap your weekend up by dancing your ass off with DJ Jonny Disco at Soundpony or Roj Mahal at Sin.
After that, the week slows down a bit, so take the opportunity to rest up before catching Bela Fleck & the Flecktones at Cain's Ballroom on Wednesday, April 11 and prepare for a super-busy weekend next week.
