Appetite for Excellence

Restaurants and pubs for visits west

By Sarah Rogers

If you find yourself in Oklahoma City, at some point you will probably need food. Luckily, from Downtown, to Bricktown, to Stockyards City and beyond, there are many restaurants, pubs and clubs to tickle almost any fancy. So whether you just need to find a place to park for a while (and perhaps catch a Thunder game on the tube), or you're looking for dinner with all the fixin's, here are a few spots to check out.

Cattleman's Steakhouse

1309 South Agnew Avenue

If you like steak, then Cattleman's is a good bet. Located in Stockyards City, this rich-soaked steakhouse, with its perfectly aged steaks and legendary breakfasts -- and the seal of approval of Food Network's Guy Fieri -- you know this place must be good.

McNellie's Pub

1100 Classen Drive

Tulsans know about McNellie's Pub in Downtown Tulsa. OKC has their version too with its own charms. McNellie's features menus with fresh, reasonably priced food and an atmosphere that anyone at any age can experience. With hard-to-find draught and bottled beers, plus great collections of single mat scotches, McNellie's is a great place to try.

Rok Bar

115 East California Avenue

Rok Bar is the first New York style rock-and-roll bar and lounge to hit OKC. A night at Rok Bar will include everything from live music to girls dancing on the bar. Their music ranges from Kenny Rogers to Jay Z. They have a vast array of music that will keep even the most fickle of crowds dancing!

Belle Isle Brewery

1900 Northwest Expressway

Located in Northwest Oklahoma City, Belle Isle Brewery has been entertaining the crowds for years. This place is so great, even Tulsans love this Oklahoma City Brewery. "I like Belle Isle Brewery because it has good food, great service, good drinks, live bands and it's just a cool place," said Tulsa native Ernie Smart. Belle Isle is also a great place to catch Oklahoma City Thunder games.

"Right now is an especially awesome time to go here because the OKC Thunder are in the playoffs and every Thunder game is aired live on the projector screen," said patron Aaron Lowe. "It's also the official place for OSU Football Watch Parties." The downstairs has an elegant setting for those "date night" meals. Meanwhile, the upstairs gives a more casual dining experience. At night, the upstairs turns into a full blown bar and a great place for singles/young couples to interact and mingle.

Cattleman's Steak House

Deep Fork

5418 North Western Avenue

If you are looking for something with a more romantic feel, Deep Fork is a place to try out. "This is pretty much a complete 5-star dining experience," said Deep Fork patron Cameron Davis. "I can't get enough." This contemporary American wood grill and fish house specializes in creative dishes with the best fresh fish.

The Wedge Pizzeria

4709 North Western Avenue

If you enjoy pizza, then you must try The Wedge Pizzeria. This pizzeria focuses on using only the freshest ingredients and products available -- and they make everything from scratch daily. "They have the best, most creative pizzas I've ever had," said Wedge patron Daniel Adkisson. "The ingredients are so fresh. They have desserts from little places around Oklahoma City and they sell them in their pizzeria. This place has a fun environment and has such great food!"

S&B's Burger Joint

5929 North May Avenue

S&B's Burger Joint's atmosphere may be funky, but don't let that fool you. This is a local favorite. This burger joint invites you to stop by and experience their many variations of sliders and full size burgers. All of their sauces are house made, and they use nothing but the best and freshest ingredients. They make their burgers fresh and they have sliders, a full service staff, a full service bar and homemade desserts.

Tapwerks Ale House and Cafe 121 East Sheridan Avenue

Tapwerks Ale House & Cafe is Oklahoma's oldest taphouse, with 212 taps and over 100 different bottled choices for your enjoyment. "The thing I like most about this place," said Oklahoma City resident Aaron Lowe, "is it has three levels. The first level is non-smoking; you don't ever really find that anymore. The second and third levels are smoking and both have full bars and pool tables and can be rented out for parties. It's awesome!" Tapwerks has the largest selection of beer in the State of Oklahoma. Enjoy the laid back style of an Olde English Pub located right in the heart of Bricktown.

Happy eating!
