Mayor Taylor? How 'bout Gov. Taylor?

Dear UTW:

Kathy Taylor can be Tulsa's next Governor of Oklahoma in 2014.

Here's how:

We Democrats are hurting for a tough-as-nails candidate to retire tea party Republican Governor Mary Fallin.

Taylor has a perfect resume -- a lawyer, experience running the state's second largest city, a good recruiter of business and industry, and an aide to former Gov. Brad Henry.

In 2010, we Democrats showed we are willing to vote for a qualified woman for governor when Lt. Gov. Jari Askins upset Attorney General Drew Edmondson in the primary.

Only three Democrats can match her name recognition -- former Gov. David Boren, former Congressman Dan Boren, and former OU football coach Barry Switzer. Little Boren has bowed out of the race and Big Boren and Switzer have other fish to fry.

Taylor has figured Tulsa out, something our last Tulsa governor, Frank Keating, was unable to do. Tulsans prefer governors to be millionaires and Taylor meets that qualification.

Taylor has a Tulsa mansion fitting for a governor so she can do the state's business there in grand style.

Taylor plunked down more than $1 million to become mayor and should be willing to do the same to get her campaign going.

She has her own jet to make trips around the state a piece of cake.

She just needs to remember former Gov. Henry Bellmon's description of the job: "A lot of people look at the governor as kind of a low-paid movie star. They want to shake his hand, get his autograph, and tell folks they did."

Not Letting the Election Go

Dear UTW:

What is really scary about the results of the 2012 election is that 54,391,640 Americans voted for a man without any good purpose to be president, a man so rich from inherited wealth and who hides his tax records from us, who hides millions in foreign countries, and has a history of job killing. A man who most evangelicals say is not a Christian. A man who lies with every breath and would not tell his activist agenda if elected. Who picked a VP who worships Ayn Rand, the godless capitalist. Who wants to kill Medicare, Obamacare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Romney said he does not care about 47 percent of us. Romney said that states should solve their problems without big government -- including disasters. A man who has never done any real work in his whole life -- with no concept of people's need to survive, or any love and mercy for the poor, sick, or elderly.

So what was it for these 54,391,640 suicide voters to kill their own livelihoods and social safety nets for themselves, their neighbors, and families? Bad things happen to good souls. A man who wants to give the government and church tyrants control over women's bodies -- like the Taliban. Women are people too -- not slaves of little men who want them barefoot and pregnant. There was no love or logic in this voting for Romney/Ryan! So why this self-destructive insanity of them and us? Is it a flaw in independent thinking beyond their self control? If not then all that is left is the pure hate racism -- scary people!

Republicanism (churlism) is an ancient genetic trait of compulsive obsessive possessive behavior of greed, power, and stupidity. "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth" (Gen. 6:5). They look like us but are not like us. Not like the children of the good God of Jesus. They have no god but mammon and no prophet but profit.

Need Armed School Security Officers

Dear UTW:

The recent tragedy at a Connecticut school shooting points out the need for stronger security measures to help prevent or mitigate loss of life at our schools.

The emergency plans implemented at schools can minimize injuries and deaths, but cannot prevent them when confronted with determined shooters. Buzzers, cameras, identification cards, and sign-in books will not stop shooters from forcibly entering schools.

One security measure that could counter the actions of shooters is the presence of armed security officers in every school. Granted, the killers might try to shoot the officers first, but the killers could be focused on shooting the students and teachers, and the officers could take out the shooters.

Another possibility would be to have trained administrators with weapons available to them in a locked and secure location.

Mentally competent people and non-felons may purchase weapons in accordance with the Second Amendment of our Constitution, which allows citizens to bear arms, and this right should continue. However, should ordinary citizens, like the Newtown shooter, be allowed to purchase a bullet proof vest? The purchase of bullet proof vests should be a huge tipoff on the purchaser planning a shooting.

We need armed school security officers.

In Favor of the Fair Tax

Dear UTW:

Politicians seek the wrong solution to our economic woes. The income tax has failed. It has driven business away from the U.S. The only proposal before Congress that will fix our economy is the Fair Tax (HR25), not to be confused with the Flat Tax.

The first year of enactment will produce 10.5 percent increase in the economy along with 36 percent increase in exports. Workers will keep their full paycheck with no deductions for Uncle Sam. Business will no longer have to keep mounds of records and report them to the IRS. That alone will save more than $500 billion annually, which can be used to create new jobs. Every dime paid to Uncle Sam in income taxes can be used to create new business.

Congress has refused to act. Grassroots effort is necessary to pass The Fair Tax. See: fairtax.org
