I do not shop in Tulsa because (a) Taxes are too high and (b) the money that the city receives in taxes is wasted. Does Tulsa need all the overpaid, parasitic, unionized cops we are supporting? Do we need more dams in the river, which the Parks Department is trying to slip by people? Do we need TWO helicopters for "our" police department, when the OHP has two for the entire state? Do we need to give the hotel and motel tax to the Tulsa Chamber, so that they can advertise their own private businesses with OUR tax dollars? And frankly, Mr. Ewing, Maria Barnes and Bill Christiansen are two of the five clowns on the city council that are causing most of our problems. Anything THEY come up with is probably not good for the city, and not good for me. So Mr. Ewing, until we get competent councillors or go back to the city commission style of government, I will continue to drive south to Broken Arrow and Bixby and spend my money where it's appreciated.

This was absolutely the worst, most biased article
I have ever read in UTW. Where to begin?
First of all, negroes were not "enslaved" by whites or the "Five Civilized Tribes". The original breeding stock consisted of tribal warfare captives bought in Africa from native dealers. The members of the Five Civilized Tribes bought their slaves and other cattle from from whites---they did not "enslave" negroes.
Then we have the bit about the "very aggressive Ku Klux Klan". What did that have to do with a Negro sexually assaulting a teenage elevator operator? Then after the suspect is jailed, a gang of armed blacks threatens a group of unarmed whites at the courthouse. But naturally, the whites are to blame. Do you suppose if the sexual assault hadn't happened, that if the blacks had let the law deal with the situation,
that the riot might not have happened?
It takes extreme provocation to cause white people to riot. Although this article was very much slanted in one direction, it is still obvious that the provocation was there.
