Nobody made David Cook go on American Idol. Is there any more desperate way to make yourself into a conformist begging for judgement than to go on American Idol? And once you win what do you think is going to happen? The label owns you and you will play whatever music that their research deems 12 year old girls are going to buy today (the demographic of tween girls seems to be the driving force behind the pop record industry- which David seems to have ingratiated himself to through his participation in A.I.). You don't need to stick up for David, he got what he wants- for better or in this case for worse...and we get to make fun of him for it. Yeah! Also, I'd like to mention than none of the aforementioned best albums of the year were anywhere near my mental list of top ten albums of '08. Although I admit a more eclectic taste in music that includes genres outside of 'pop' ( which as I mentioned before is driven by the highly evolved musical tastes of 12 year old girls) -Weasel Truth Squad

Mayfest insider gig tip #22- Demand that your band get stage-side parking for your entire performance! Mayfest lets the bands unload all their gear next to the stage and then tells 'em 'ok, go find a parking spot. We'll try to keep an eye on your gear while your trolling for a damn parking spot for the next 20-25 minutes.' You only play an hour, then you gotta go get your car again (10 min. minimum) and load out. The way I figure it is... Average 1 hour gig=a) arrive 30 min ahead to unload and set up b) play 1 hour set c) load out (20 min) equaling 1 hour and 50 minutes. Average mayfest 1 hour gig = a) arrive 1 hour ahead to unload, park your car, then set-up. b) play 1 hour gig c) retrieve car and load out (40 min) equaling 2 hours and 40 minutes of your time Basically, you as the low- paid musician end up spending nearly a whole hour (one extra set as far as I'm concerned) just dealing with parking and un-parking your car for the convenience of Mayfest. Don't get me started on the pay scale for the bands either...it's just plain disrespectful. Neither I nor any of my bands play Mayfest anymore, we won't until they start respecting the locals a little more. Get the real scoop about Mayfest from Rocky Frisco, he was there at the very beginning. You can find out how they maligned him. Weasel Truth Squad out!

It's like the Greenwood Chamber is trying to pick up the pieces of where the Greenwood Jazz Festival left off in the mid 90's (I realize the festival ran past the year 2000, but the format of performers was so remote to jazz by that time that I can't even compare. I mean Delbert McClinton? Really? Delbert?) I hope that Tulsa finds some new headliners for the festivals soon. Grady just headlined Juneteenth...er...uh...I mean the Community Through Music Fest like a month ago. I can only imagine that Waymond was already busy for this one or Grady would have tag teamed out and headlined Mayfest next year..or is it Eldredge's turn? Oh well, who cares.

the Sounds of Music Orchestra is playing at the Monte Casino auditorium Friday night at 7:30. The musicians are playing for free but the organization raises money for good causes- like giving decent instruments to poor, young musicians. Tickets are cheap compared to what you pay to put 3 gallons of gas in your car these days.
