Re: The Absolute Best of Tulsa 2008  7/18/2008 - 3:16pm
What kind of town do we live in where Eye Candy Burlesque
is voted the best live theatre group?

We have many fine theatre groups in Tulsa, including children's theatre groups. Tulsa is very lucky to be able to enjoy and/or participate in quality local theatre.

And who wins? A Burlesque group! Sheesh! What will people considering moving here think about this city and its citizens?

   I am embarrassed!

Next year, UT, please include a Children's Theatre group. No matter who wins that category, at least we'll know it won't be a burlesque group!!

Re: Sailed to New Heights  6/23/2008 - 2:38pm
I was disappointed in the set and costumees. I wanted to see pirates. After the lushness and color of Phantom, the grey/black white palate left me cold.

Re: My First MayDome  6/ 3/2008 - 9:37am
I thought the Belly Dancers at the Blue Dome Festival were much better than the Mayfest ones. This year was the first one I'd gone to the DomeFest, and I loved it! We also discovered El Guapos that day! A great find! I can't wait to see what improvements Tulsa has made in that district by next year's festival.

Re: Actions Speak Louder  5/21/2008 - 9:14am
I really liked the lighting and the set. The colors are so intense and I think they help make the production look magical.

I also really enjoyed Oberon and Puck's relationship in this version of the play.

It's so much fun to see how each director and cast interpret it. I've seen this play many times, and it's always different. That's one of the joys of watching Shakespeare--Seeing it through the eyes of different groups of people.

For people staying in town this weekend, this play is a must-see. You'll enjoy it, I promise. When I attended, everyone was howling with laughter.

   Good work, Whit and cast!

Re: Events  5/16/2008 - 3:23pm
I saw the invitational dress rehearsal of A Midsummer Night's Dream last night, and it is a riot!

The set is magnificent! Magical is probably a better word. And the costumes are totally unique. I love them!

And speaking of magic, all of the magical creatures that inhabit Shakespeare's forest are charming, but creepy. The fairies hide and sneak around, dressed in grunge costumes. The sprite, Puck, is hilarious, especially in his scenes with Oberon, the fairy king. And the fairy queen is beautiful and demanding, and obviously the intelligent one in that family. Oberon is always out goofing off with Puck and causing trouble.

The humble players who perform their rough comedy before the Duke are great, especially the cowardly lion. All of them play their parts to perfection.

The lovers who lose their way in the magical forest and fall in and out of love with each other at Oberon's whim are delightful and energetic. How do they come out of those performances without black eyes and bruises?

Even the Indian boy who is the innocent cause of the fairies' quarrels is cute in his red feather.

I was obviously not the only one to enjoy the performance, as the audience howled with laughter.

Even if you don't normally appreciate Shakespeare, take my word for it, you will enjoy this performance. If you miss it, you will be missing out on a once in a life time treat!
