I am pissed off because Oklahoma is number 2 in the country for animal neglect and puppy mills. The pet overpopulation crisis is at an all time high here in Oklahoma and all anyone wants to do is whine that the animal shelter is understaffed and underfunded. So far this year there are more dog bite incidents than any other year on record, and no one wants to take the time to look into it further than animal control. What about the fact we are one of the only states in the ENTIRE country that has no regulations on puppy mills whatsoever therefor more and more breeders are moving here and creating a mass pet overpopluation problem. Since we have NO regulation we may actually be number 1 in the country for puppy mills BUT since there is no accurate way of keeping track other than the few breeders that did register with the USDA for interstate commerce issues, we rate at number 2 for the moment. Every Bill that is put before committee to regulate such places dies before it hits the floor because a lot of the rural constituants are afraid of losing their seat if they vote for regulation because they know there are a lot of breeders in their areas and they are afraid the regulation would spill over into livestock when in fact the Bill clearly states dogs and cats ONLY. So what REALLY pisses me off is there is no bandaid for this problem, we cannot simply blame animal control for it and no one seems interested in the plain simple truth, that we, as Oklahomans, have the WORST reputation in the COUNTRY as inbred puppy farmers and other cities regularly write articles on how disgusting it is in Oklahoma's puppy mills and how many animals we euthanize per year. Aren't you proud to be an Oklahoman?
