Catsup, Did you mean to say "Businesses downtown are thriving so much that new ones are opening there nearly every week"? Because that's the reality. Businesses downtown are not failing. Go down there and take a look around sometime. You'll be amazed at how many new places there are, and how many shops that opened two years ago are still thriving.

Considering the building was a total loss due to fire, cannot likely be rebuilt to be structurally sound, and has inadequate off-street parking to meet city code, I'd say there are plenty of people "like him". He's managed to take an unusable building and "donate" it to a non-profit, which will sorely regret accepting it.

Claudia, This nation was created by deists, for the most part. Yes, most believed in a higher power, but not the one who dictated these commandments. They believed even more in not forcing ANY religious beliefs upon others. Do you even know which version of the commandments they plan to use? There are several, after all. It's a shame that they're going to all of this work when this law will ultimately be overturned. If it isn't, you can expect a statue of the deity "The Flying Spaghetti Monster" to be the next installation. You can see there is a precedent for this at http://laughingsquid.com/flying-spaghetti-monster-statue-outside-of-tennessee-courthouse/ And kindly keep YOUR god out of OUR schools. Not everyone believes as you do. There are laws in place in this country to prevent the mingling of church and state, as well as "Tyranny of the Majority", and I will fight you and everyone like you who wishes to indoctrinate my child with your beliefs via our taxpayer-funded public education system. Teach you child as you like, but do so in your home, or in your chosen place of worship. -John B.

The article fails to mention the one problem that will probably lead to the building's demolition, which is lack of parking.

$100K for a fence?! I don't care what it's made of, that's insane.
