Thanks for this column. Anyone who thinks that sitting in a circle singing Kum-Ba-Yah is going to change the evils of the world are fools or worse... unwitting fools. Against the avowedly non-violent, pigs have no restraint: why stop at pepper spray? They might as well be using oven cleaner against the militantly non-violent mushrooms that choose to subject themselves to violence orchestrated by those they protest against. Forget occupying Wall Street! Pierce the corporate veil and really make it hurt! Occupying the country clubs! Assault the homes of the monsters responsible for crippling the global economy! Power never cedes willingly. It's not corporations that brought this on, it's the people directing the corporations! Once those at the top feel the heat, personally, that's when change will happen. Threaten their way of life the way they threaten ours and 'The Game' will change forever. Torches and pitchforks are required equipment in this endeavor. Screw Murdoch and his minions! We've got real skin in this game.

The good doctor's credentials explain his rather bizarre views. The "Center for Vision and Values", where he is a "professor of political science and Fellow for American Studies", is a well known front for the Koch Brothers stealth campaign to buy and subvert the political process. The Charles G. Koch Foundation's website proclaims: "The mission of the Center for Vision & Values is to create a multi-faceted, interactive learning community to strengthen the faith and freedom foundation of the United States of America and advance liberty around the world". Compare that stated aim with the outlandish opinions and ridiculously flawed facts in just the first few paragraphs of Folkertsma's op-ed: progressives = socialists, wanting to render free elections irrelevant, projections referencing "1984", etc. If the Koch's want to finance deception and obfuscation to achieve their own less than admirable political ends, well, they could try to be a little more up-front as to their motives. The UTW could stand to be a little more ethical by disclosing the sponsors of op-ed writers they are shills sponsored by those following the "Big Lie" school of propaganda to further the goals of a family with overtly fascist aims. I'm curious as to why Urban Tulsa would have to go as far as Grove City to find such a confused misrepresentation of American progressive politics when any schizophrenic nut-job on the streets of Downtown (or most local Beck-tards) could rattle off a more varied collection of aspersions, lies and vitriol while rabidly flecking the readership with the same quality of spittle provided by Dr. Folkertsma.

Off with their heads! BP and Massey Energy should be made an example of. Corporate citizens, pshaw! These are two of the largest corporate public enemies operating today. No changes to current law are required only a change in attitude toward robber-barons and a sec'o'state willing to administer corporate death sentences to a few of the most egregious offenders.

The Collective is a great place, unassuming, even a bit Bohemian. The location is a former "sports bar" ('Hard-Wood Cafe', 'Jerk-Off Pivot', something like that), reborn as an "all ages" establishment. The western half serves tasty sandwiches, flat-bread pizzas and great coffee 'til 9PM-ish (with a great avocado sandwich, BTW), with a full service bar and performance space in the eastern half . The Collective serves the tasty, local, 'Marshall' beers (I like the 'IPA' best) at less-than-the-going-rate (of some local establishments) and specializes in booking local bands (haven't seen a bad one there yet), improv groups, with big-screen video features and even local artisan sales from time to time. The Collective... keep in touch with them and spend your money there if you can. I want them to stick around for a good, long time. Their homepage at http://www.thecollectivetulsa.com/ is currently down (wassup with that?) but Goggle them or just drop in.
