Nice story. I love learning about other faiths. Once I spent an hour in my front yard telling 2 young men about my Catholic faith and they told me about their Mormon faith. Always interesting!

I love the river and the river parks and would love to see improvements in that area -- particularly anything that the city can do to make the new Kaiser park at 31st Street a reality! But in contrast to the person who thinks that we can make the river some other color besides "brown" -- I certainly doubt that. It's a sandy-bottom river -- maybe we can get it cleaner, but it's always going to appear brown. Unless of course we dye it green like they do the Chicago River on St. Pat's day! The trail system along the river and connecting to Sand Springs and Broken Arrow is one of the best trail systems in the midwest. This is something that few other cities have. We should focus on what a great asset the Arkansas River is for our city and put some Vision2 money into expanding recreation opportunities nearby -- as well as connecting it to other parts of the city including more downtown.

I've been fighting to get westside neighborhoods cleaned up for more than a year. Unkept homes invite crime in neighborhoods, lower property values, and encourage others around the eyesores to not keep their homes up either. We have solicited volunteers to help poor homeowners mow and maintain their property and have helped several people with mowing. We've worked with the City's Working in Neighborhoods department to provide dumpsters and bulk pick ups. There are many things that individuals can do to help in situations like this. It is not our responsibility as taxpayers, nor the City's, to maintain privately-held properties without reimbursements. I feel sorry for this woman, but perhaps she should not own a home that she can't afford to maintain. If the city merely allows people to leave eyesores unkept -- every property owner suffers.

I'm not a member at St. Paul's but I've volunteered to help with Manna Meals a few times. It's a wonderful program. They could probably use volunteers, especially groups who could come in and help cook. I'm sure that they can also use donations to pay for the groceries. I've heard protesters say that they want to end Capitalism and that they wouldn't go to work for a corporation if someone gave them a job. I'm curious as to how they think that they can earn a living with no corporations or businesses. And just what do they want to replace Capitalism with?
