The current policy promotes distaste for an individual due to personal circumstances. How can she feel safe (in the event she happens to come into a combat situation) when she knows that her comrades-in-arms don't care for her? In the military, you form bonds with your fellow soldiers that can never be broken...and those bonds help keep that newly formed family alive in tense situations. How can you form a bond with the rest of the unit when the military already promotes a distaste for that lifestyle?
Either allow openly gay service men and women, or don't allow it at all...DADT is a dismal failure. But give Sgt. Stewart the credit and respect she deserves...she's at least made an effort where very few others couldn't walk a click in her boots."
