"In all honesty, Section 8 housing additions and apt. complexes shouldn't be allowed to be owned by outside realty companies. Policies need to be put in to effect that force any company receiving state's aid to have a central office within the state with which it receives aid. By doing this, accountability can be added, and perhaps even regulated. One of the biggest issues facing this area is a lack of 'caring' about the property. When a company is in it solely for the money, all other priorities are pushed to the bottom. Need security? Well, let's wait and deliberate over the impact the added expense might have on the quarterly statements. Need better lighting? Well, let's check the finances first. The apartments are nearly unlivable? Well, they are still livable, so let's hold out until we HAVE to do something. This is the mentality of a business-owner that is purely in it for the money. Property owners that seek funding from the state should be held to a much higher standard than that of a private owner, because in reality, the residents living in those areas are usually under a lot more stress. When people becomes stressed out, they tend to do crazy things or allow crazy things to happen. We need to take back our publicly funded housing-properties and we need to set a standard that says "this isn't acceptable anymore." Instead of talking about it, we need to actually do something about it. Hold our public officials accountable and they will in turn hold business owners accountable."
