"I saw the invitational dress rehearsal of A Midsummer Night's Dream last night, and it is a riot!
The set is magnificent! Magical is probably a better word. And the costumes are totally unique. I love them!
And speaking of magic, all of the magical creatures that inhabit Shakespeare's forest are charming, but creepy. The fairies hide and sneak around, dressed in grunge costumes. The sprite, Puck, is hilarious, especially in his scenes with Oberon, the fairy king. And the fairy queen is beautiful and demanding, and obviously the intelligent one in that family. Oberon is always out goofing off with Puck and causing trouble.
The humble players who perform their rough comedy before the Duke are great, especially the cowardly lion. All of them play their parts to perfection.
The lovers who lose their way in the magical forest and fall in and out of love with each other at Oberon's whim are delightful and energetic. How do they come out of those performances without black eyes and bruises?
Even the Indian boy who is the innocent cause of the fairies' quarrels is cute in his red feather.
I was obviously not the only one to enjoy the performance, as the audience howled with laughter.
Even if you don't normally appreciate Shakespeare, take my word for it, you will enjoy this performance. If you miss it, you will be missing out on a once in a life time treat! "
