As a third term member of the Summit Hill Board in Saint Paul, I urge Tulsa, and every city in America, that does not have a District Council system to adopt one.
Over the years I have seen how district councils can effect change in a neighborhood for the better. It allows citizens at the local level to impact decisions made at City Hall, that would not otherwise be possible.
Rather than decisions being made by business interests, developers and City Council and staff alone, the District Councils serve as buffers for the neighborhoods, providing valuable community input. Often our District Council has said that the original design for a plan is not compatable with the neighborhood and has suggested how a plan or design can be improved.
I am delighted that your author chose to examine our District Councils and is proposing them as a model.
