Heather L. Embrey, 10/ 4/2008 - 10:56pm "First of all, the problem does not lie with the Tulsa Police filing City charges versus State (as stated by Graychin). The problem lies with the County Government wanting the City residents to pay for the jail and jail operations twice. Currently, City residents already pay for the jail and jail operations through taxes and ticket revenue (yes, from Police tickets, etc) The City, and therefore City residents, should not have to then turn around and pay a second time for the jail and jail operations. By the City's estimate 70% of the jail and jail operations is covered throught the CITY. By the County's estimate, about 60% is covered by the City. Isn't it interesting that with EITHER estimate, that OVER HALF of the jail and jail operations is covered by the CITY of Tulsa residents. I for one do not think that I should have to pay for the jail and jail operations through my tax dollars and then have the City have to pay fees that would then be passed onto me AGAIN. As long as there are uneducated people that do not realize what is really going on, we will continue to have people thinking that the problem lies with the Police."
