A few questions for the author.
I don't understand your assertion that we have lost any separation of powers and democratic system at some kind of Nazi level. We still have elections, and our military takes oaths not to a single man but to our Bill of Rights. Also we still have a Congress. Maybe it doesn't do everything it should, but it seems a far cry from the Nazi Reichstag parliament, which was composed entirely of one political party, didn't have meaningful elections, passed almost no laws, and hardly ever met, let alone discussed legislation. There would never have been a controversy about 'what the CIA told congress' in Nazi Germany... the SS and the Reichstag were a lot of the same people!
As for your implication that the judicial branch is dead... I don't understand this... one of the main reasons we know about these Torture Memos is because the judicial branch told the executive branch to obey the Freedom of Information Act law and respond to the lawsuits by the ACLU. We know about a lot of the incidents at GTMO because of the lawyers who went there to represent the prisoners, and the JAGs and military lawyers who protested against violations of Geneva. These lawyers are not going away. The ACLU is going to keep at it, and there are still judges who try to uphold the laws passed by Congress, like FOIA.
I am also wondering about your claim re the burning and dumping of bodies. The reason we know about many of these interrogation deaths is because the bodies were examined by the Army Medical Examiner's office and those autopsy reports are online because of the ACLU FOIA requests. The MEs are the ones who determined a lot of these interrogation deaths were homicide. So we actually have a lot of evidence for some of these cases. As for the 'black sites' not under military control.... who knows.
But should we really throw in the towel on America yet and say its just like Nazi Germany? A lot of the information we have about the torture came from leakers, whistleblowers, and objectors inside the CIA, the FBI, the military, and other government agencies.... and many of those whistleblowers are conservatives and/or Republicans. Under Nazi rule, these people would all be dead or in concentration camps. I just dont get how we are 'just like the Nazis'.
