Stopping the Jail Train
Because it won't take us to Safeville
Some years ago, I read a piece about nuclear-testing "tourism" in 1950s era Nevada -- an exotic, early form of what we'd call adventure tourism today. The Silver State was the venue for much of America's atomic weapons development program.

Forgotten Parks
Advanced decay just one of the issues
Everything, it seems, in city service provision is wildly entangled. While questioning the need for humongous public safety in the abstract is pointless and even heretical, Tulsa's hyper-conventional arrangements for doing/funding police and fire protection have at least two unintended outcomes: city employees who are not cops or firefighters are big casualties of our hugely unimaginative, extremely costly public safety trajectory, and the insufferable neglect of our public parks and recreational programs is a second disaster zone.

Take the Good, Take the Bad
Mercifully, session comes to an end
As the mostly unlamented 2013 legislation session nears adjournment, it's time to take note of some highs and lows: High: Sen. Brian Crain's Senate Bill 315 requiring law officers to be trained in recognizing symptoms of Alzheimer's and dementia.

Something's Fishy
Questionable practices abound in OKC

Lost in Neverland
Many 20-somethings don't lack information, but maturity
Can you go back and remember the tale of Peter Pan? Peter Pan and Tinkerbell come to the home of Wendy and her brothers and whisk her away to Neverland -- a place where you never, ever grow up.

PlaniTulsa Revisited
Hope springs eternal with new mayor
The May 8 Mayoral Candidate Forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters revealed well defined differences between the three candidates, especially when it comes to support for PlaniTulsa and the city's Comprehensive Plan. Each of the mayoral hopefuls was given an opportunity to respond to multiple questions which related either directly or indirectly to the comprehensive plan.

Tulsa, We Have a Problem
Airport short on funds, initiative
A recent report on the cost to fly from Tulsa International Airport (TIA) didn't really come as a surprise to frequent flyers. Those who fly for pleasure or business have known for quite some time that Tulsa is a very expensive airport for flying.

No sign or not to sign, that's the question for candidates. Pledges related to abortion rights, a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget and other issues were pitched to Republican presidential hopefuls, according to The New York Times.
