The Absolute Best of Tulsa embodies this attitude each year. We categorize the things that define our community -- people, businesses, bars, restaurants, artists and entertainers -- and give readers a forum to channel their thoughts.
There's no in-house editorial or advertising component here, just a wave after wave of paper ballots and digital votes to count. Thousands and thousands and thousands of them.
The ABoT Music Awards winners will be detailed in next week's issue, but you can get the scoop live on Saturday, July 16. We're giving out the awards live at a party/concert we've booked at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. It'll be loud and all local, of course, so come rock the vote with us.

Given the animosity that has existed in city government for the past year and a half, there were a number of elected officials who probably feared getting the chicken treatment from UTW readers fed up with the constant squabbling at City Hall. But the guy who stands the best chance of finding himself coated in the sticky stuff and decked out like Big Bird is none other than Hizzoner, who gets the lion's share of the blame for the back-and-forth between the executive and legislative branches of municipal government.

The People
Take a good look around. Sure, the urban development is cool, the local food is delish, and all four seasons show up in full force in good ol' T-Town, but nothing beats the friendly smiles and generous spirit Tulsans convey. It's a battle that's gone on for so long there seems little point in reviewing the specifics here. All that seems to matter is that the end is nowhere in sight.

You didn't let the unassuming exterior fool you -- some of the best and most provocative theater in town is situated near an industrial park.

We suspect the Buckaneer Bar is what keeps those TU students partying hard after all the loan money has gone to higher education.

Lots of skin, a little mystery and too much hairspray make this the place to go for a prideful night.

The crispy quail legs are superb and the lamb porterhouse chops are outstanding, but come expecting daily specials.

Perry's is a shrine to Almighty Meat. The glass refrigerator case reflects the look of a true deli/butcher shop. Since then, his administration has overseen a number of important initiatives, including the launching of a Management Review Office to implement many of the cost-saving recommendations included in a recent audit of city services by an independent firm, as well as the creation of a Sustainability Department to make Tulsa a more green-friendly place.
